Paul McCartney’s Bass Guitar Was Auctioned Off For A Record-Breaking Price

A bass guitar that Paul McCartney used while on tour with The Wings has worked its way into the record books. At a recent auction, the Yamaha BB-1200 McCartney once owned broke the world record for the most expensive bass after it was sold for $496,100 (£374,905). It breaks the previous record that was set by The Rolling Stones‘ Bill Wyman’s 1969 Fender Mustang bass, which was sold for $384,000 (£290,190) last year. The auction was organized by U2’s The Edge and producer Bob Ezrin for their charity Music Rising, which aims to “benefit musicians in the Gulf South” after the “devastation the COVID-19 pandemic has wrought on musicians and musical communities.”

McCartney’s bass was not the only record-breaking item sold at the auction. Eddie Vedder’s Lake Placid Blue Fender Telecaster, which he once destroyed during a show, broke the record for the most expensive smashed guitar after it sold for $266,200 (£201,168). The likes of Elton John, Pearl Jam, Rush, Tom Morello, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Kings Of Leon, Johnny Marr, Green Day, Radiohead, and Arcade Fire’s Win Butler also donated instruments to the auction. In total, $2 million (£1.5 million) was raised.

McCartney recently joined Foo Fighters at October’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame to play The Beatles classic “Get Back” at the induction ceremony.

You can watch a video of McCartney using the record-breaking bass guitar above.

Liz Cheney Shredded Jim Jordan On The House Floor, Calling His Nonsense About Mark Meadows’s Possible Indictment ‘Flat False’

Jim Jordan sure likes to humiliate himself. He regularly tweets nonsense that only gets him dragged. He throws hissy fits during hearings he doesn’t like. He even does it on the floor of the House of Representatives. He did so again on Tuesday, when he tried to defend Mark Meadows, the former White House chief of staff who the Jan. 6 committee — which almost featured Jordan, improbably — voted to hold him in contempt of Congress. His rant was plagued with falsehoods, and one of his fellow Republicans made sure to patiently call him out on his BS.

After taking the podium, Jordan laid into Democrats, accusing them of preventing Republicans of serving on the Jan. 6 committee, as well as trying to end the filibuster, make D.C. a state, and “pack the courts.” (All three of those things they haven’t been able to do, thanks in part to…other Democrats.) He also claimed they were trying to “destroy executive privilege,” the excuse Trump and his cronies have been erroneously leaning on, even though it only protects sitting presidents.

And he wept some tears for Mark Meadows, “my friend.” He claimed it was “as wrong as it gets” to hold him in contempt, and that the real reason for doing was his colleagues’ “lust for power, your lust to get your opponent is so intense you don’t care.”

It was classic Jordan, an avalanche of factually dubious claims and spittle. And Liz Cheney wasn’t having it.

The longtime Republican, who was demoted from certain key positions by her own colleagues (including Jim Jordan) after she refused to parrot Trump’s voter fraud lies, patiently dismantled Jordan’s nonsense.

Cheney stood up to address “some of the charges that my colleague from Ohio just made, which are flat false.” She then went through them one by one. She pointed out that Meadows refused to show up for a deposition on a day that he himself chose. She also pointed out that he “refused to show up to address non-privileged questions,” i.e., matters that fall outside what anyone would claim as protected by “executive privilege.”

“So my colleague from Ohio can talk as much as he’d like about executive privilege, about George Washington and the extent of which it’s crucial for the survival of the Republic, with which I agree,” Cheney allowed. “But we are talking about testimony about non-privileged material.”

Cheney also pointed out that there was once upon a time that “we all on this side of the aisle used to be in agreement about what had happened on Jan. 6.” She read aloud a statement Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy made on Jan. 13, a week after the Capitol siege, in which he directly blamed Trump for the riot and said he should have put the kibosh on it immediately, which he did not.

“Unfortunately, Mr. McCarthy’s position changed on this issue,” Cheney said. “Mr. McCarthy then worked against, voted against the resolution that would have created a bipartisan commission to investigate these matters. And he withdrew his nominees to this committee. Let me say it again: He withdrew his nominees to this committee.”

She concluded by saying, “This committee is engaged in critical investigative and legislative activity, for which there is no greater purpose in terms of Congress’ responsibility — no matter what my colleague on the other side may claim in terms of Mr. Meadows.”

In any case, perhaps Jordan’s meltdown over Meadows maybe going to a jail was mere projection. After all, the committee may be calling him up sometime soon.

Rowdy Rebel Won’t Release Music After He Claims His Label Hasn’t Paid Him Since His 2014 Signing

Back in the summer of 2014, Rowdy Rebel signed a deal with Epic Records. Six months later, he was arrested and charged with conspiracy, attempted murder, attempted assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to 6-7 years in prison after he accepted a plea deal. He was released nearly a year ago on December 15, 2020, and was greeted by the likes of Young Thug, who gave him diamond chains as a welcome-back present.

After his release, Rebel returned to his music career and dropped tracks like “Jesse Owens,” with Nav, and “9 Bridge,” with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. However, it may be a while until we hear more from him. “I’m not dropping no more music until @epicrecords pay me,” Rowdy wrote in a post to his Instagram Story. “I haven’t received one check for all the music I put out since 2014. I been patient but enough is enough.” Rebel later deleted the post but not before people could screenshot it.

Since his release, Rebel has released more music than the songs we already mentioned one paragraph above. That includes an a cappella freestyle he dropped back in March and a collaboration with French Montana for a remix of CJ’s “Whoopty.”

Ever wondered how a hippo gets its teeth cleaned? It’s even cuter than you might think.

Fun fact: Hippos can have anywhere from 38-44 teeth. That means up to 44 chances of a cavity. And with the daily servings of healthy fruits and vegetables that they receive at the zoo, odds are something is gonna get stuck.

Funner fact: Hippo teeth cleanings are a thing.

While there is no shortage of amazing animal videos out there, this one of a hippo getting his smile maintained is certainly giving us something to smile about today, too.

The zookeeper, clad in blue, nonchalantly approaches the beast/animal/creature. And hippo knows what’s up. It’s teeth cleaning time.

Its huge mouth goes agape. And the zookeeper’s hands dive in to feel around the blunted canines. The hippo certainly embodies more stillness that I can ever muster up during a dental visit.

Next it’s teeth brushing time, with a cartoonishly large toothbrush. And boy, is the sight mesmerizing in a “wow, didn’t know this was an actual job,” sort of way.

Or maybe a “oh this is wholesome but also kind of terrifying” sort of way, considering that the hippo is one of the most dangerous animals in Africa, second only to mosquitos.

People were quick to note this in the comments:

As we’re learning more about hippos than probably anticipated today, here are five lesser known facts about this gigantic water beast.

You might not be qualified to become a hippo dentist with these tidbits, but your zoological knowledge will most certainly be enhanced. Get ready to impress your friends.

1. Hippos can’t swim … or float.

That’s right. Everything you think you know is a lie. Though hippos spend most of their lives in the water, they cannot swim. Instead, they’re standing on their tippy-toes. In other words, hippos are masters of illusion.

2. Their closest living relative is a whale.

This one’s a bit of a scientific debate, as others theorize that the hippo is more closely related to a pig. So there you have it. Whale + pig = hippo. That checks out.

3. They create their own sunblock.

Because their skin is sensitive to the heat, hippos secrete a red, pinkish oily sweat that protects them from burning.

4. Baby hippos can suckle underwater.

Hippo calves will stay close to their mother, even while under water. However, their bodies have a nifty adaptation where their nostrils and eyes will close to prevent ingesting water.

5. A group of hippos is called a bloat.

And a bloat can contain up to 100 hungry, hungry hippos!

NBA Players Celebrate Steph Curry Breaking Ray Allen’s All-Time Three-Point Shooting Record

It’s official: No one in NBA history has made more three-pointers than Wardell Stephen Curry II. On Tuesday night in Madison Square Garden, Curry and the Golden State Warriors took on the New York Knicks with the two-time league MVP needing a pair of triples to have 2,974 makes in his career, which would snap the record held by legendary marksman Ray Allen.

It took less than five minutes for him to get there. Curry hit one from logo range early on in the game, and with 7:33 left on the clock, a relocation triple that dang near scraped the scoreboard at MSG made him the all-time record holder. After a Kevon Looney foul and a Steve Kerr timeout, Curry got some time to bask in his achievement while the crowd gave him a standing ovation. This included running over to where Allen was seated courtside and giving him a lengthy hug.

Unsurprisingly, the first person to go over to Curry after he hit the triple was longtime teammate Draymond Green.

Allen and Green weren’t the only members of the NBA family who celebrated Curry’s achievement, as a number of current players — including his younger brother, Seth — took to Twitter to celebrate the greatest shooter to ever live.

Steph Curry Broke Ray Allen’s All-Time Three-Point Record In The First Quarter Against The Knicks

The eyes of the NBA world were focused on Madison Square Garden on Tuesday evening, and not only because there was a nationally televised game on the schedule between the New York Knicks and the Golden State Warriors. After connecting on five three-pointers during a win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday night, Steph Curry entered the evening needing only one three-pointer to tie Ray Allen’s career record and two triples to surpass the Hall of Fame sharpshooter for the top spot on the all-time list.

Curry’s first made triple came early on in the game, when he brought the ball up the floor and pulled up from logo territory to tie Allen’s record.

To break the record, Curry got open and launched, hoisting a shot that went straight in the air did not touch the rim as it hit the floor. To celebrate, Kevon Looney intentionally committed a foul and the Warriors called a timeout while the festivities began at MSG.

Curry entered the evening with 2,972 career connections from three-point distance, including 140 in the first 26 games of the 2021-22 season. The 33-year-old already held the single-season record for three-pointers (402) during the 2015-16 season and, while Curry was already well-regarded as the best shooter in league history, this adds yet another feather in Curry’s cap. Given that he leads one of the best teams in the NBA this season and is in the midst of a season that will garner consideration for the title of “best player in the world,” things seem to be going pretty well for the two-time MVP.

CNN Juxtaposed Fox News Hosts’ Frantic Texts About Trump On Jan. 6 With Them Underplaying The Events: ‘They’re Not Journalists’

If you watched Fox News the day of the Jan. 6 Capitol siege, you probably didn’t think it was that bad. That night, Sean Hannity falsely told his viewers that Black Lives Matter protesters and other progressive activists had infiltrated the pro-Trump crowds. Ever since, they’re all either downplayed it or spread baseless, bonkers conspiracy theories. But on Monday, the House committee investigating the fateful day made public frantic texts some of the network’s stars sent that day. And thanks to CNN, you can see how they directly contradict what they were telling Fox News watchers.

The video juxtaposes the texts of three network hosts with what they told viewers. There was Laura Ingraham, who sent a message to former chief of staff Mark Meadows, in which she was clearly flustered. “The president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home,” she wrote. “This is hurting all of us. He is destroying his legacy.”

Jump to July and Ingraham seemed blasé about it. “It was not a terrorist attack,” she told her loyal fans. “It wasn’t 9/11, it wasn’t the worst thing that ever happened to America, it wasn’t an insurrection.”

There was Brian Kilmeade of Fox & Friends. “Please get him on TV,” he wrote on Jan. 6, claiming he was “destroying everything you have accomplished.”

But a mere four days later, Kilmeade had already changed his tune. “He was not saying go take the Capitol,” he said of Trump’s inciting speech before the Capitol building was breached by his violent supporters. “He was going to go protest at the Capitol. He wasn’t saying take the bike racks and throw them.”

And who texted Meadows the words, “Can he make a statement? Ask people to leave the Capitol.” Why, that’s Sean Hannity, who on Jan. 11 was complaining about how “Trump supporters are getting blamed for what happened at the Capitol,” and claimed the “vast majority” of protesters “did so peacefully.”

Did their private communiqués gibe with their public exhortations? Not really. But CNN’s John King went further than that, calling it “hypocrisy” and calling them “not journalists”:

“Number one, everything they did violated journalism ethics, reaching out to Mark Meadows. But number two — they’re not journalists — number two, the hypocrisy. To pretend it didn’t happen. On that day it was urgent, on that day the president has to do something, on that day the president has to save his legacy [and] then by that night on TV, [the riot was] not a big deal. And to this day, [the riot was] not a big deal.”

To King, the Fox News hosts’ contradictory statements only stresses “why it is so critical to get to the full truth of that day.”

Shaq Wore A Wig Because He Bumped Into An Exit Sign And Has Band-Aids On His Head

Shaquille O’Neal is a gigantic human. It’s something that everyone knows, but you can’t fully comprehend until you actually stand next to him in real life. Still, all you need to do is read that he is 7’1 (although he’s been listed at as being a little taller at points in his career) and you can get a sense of how huge he is.

Anyway, we say all of that to say this: Shaq’s size made him one of the most unstoppable forces in the history of American sports and also has the occasional downsides. One of them was on display on Tuesday night’s edition of TNT’s NBA coverage, which started with Shaq wearing a wig and the rest of the crew wondering what was going on.

He tried to play it off as a joke, saying that a hawk swooped down and attacked him, which obviously no one believed, even when he showed them the two band-aids on top of his head. But ultimately, Shaq came clean and admitted that he didn’t see an exit sign, which led to him scraping the top of his head.

Fortunately Shaq didn’t need stitches or anything like that, and instead, he and the rest of the gang laughed at an injury that’s extremely relatable to anyone who has ever tried to enter a crawlspace and conked part of their head.

Tory Lanez Reportedly Apologized To Megan Thee Stallion After Allegedly Shooting Her In The Foot

Last summer, Tory Lanez was accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. More than a year later, a preliminary hearing was held regarding the case, and it ended Lanez charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. While there’s no doubt that Megan was shot in the foot, Tory denies being the person who fired the gun. Despite this, an LAPD detective reporter testified during today’s hearing that Tory actually apologized to Megan for shooting her.

XXL reports that a source says an LAPD detective testified that “Tory called Megan’s friend Kelsey in a jailhouse call that was recorded to apologize for shooting Megan.” Another report, from the Los Angeles Times, revealed the detective’s name to be Ryan Stogner and confirmed that he said Tory made said call. Tory’s attorney, Shawn Holley, claimed that a shooting was not mentioned during the call.

Furthermore, James Queally, a reporter for The Los Angeles Times, mentioned another “interesting exchange,” which happened during the trial, over Twitter: “As an LAPD detective testified about an apologetic jail phone call Lanez made to one of Megan’s friends, the rapper had enough: ‘How about you tell me what I was apologizing for bro? That don’t make no sense,’ he yelled at the investigator.” Queally added, “Peterson’s attorney seemed to be hinting that another person in the car (a friend of Megan Thee Stallion) may have actually pulled the trigger.”

The next hearing for the shooting case has been set for January 13.
