The Suns Offered Chris Paul And The Lakers Offered Two First-Round Picks In Their Rejected Kyrie Irving Trades

Kyrie Irving is headed to the Dallas Mavericks. According to multiple media reports, Irving’s time with the Brooklyn Nets came to an end on Sunday when the team agreed to a deal with the Mavs that will send Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and a few future picks to New York for the mercurial guard.

Dallas was viewed as a potential suitor for Irving, as the team has been desperate to give Luka Doncic a co-star for years. And on Sunday evening, we learned what two other teams with aspirations of acquiring Irving were willing to move, thanks to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. In an appearance on NBA TV, Haynes revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers were, indeed, willing to move on from their 2027 and 2029 first-round picks, although it is unclear if there were any protections or what other players would be on the move.

But the bombshell came by way of the Phoenix Suns. According to Haynes, Phoenix were willing to move Chris Paul and Jae Crowder, along with draft capital, to bring Irving on board.

Being willing to part with Paul is a gigantic concession for the Suns, and it will be fascinating to see if the team ultimately tries to move Paul before the deadline on Thursday or if he was only on the table because Irving was available.

Lizzo Brought The Church Vibes During Her Grammys Performance Of ‘About Damn Time’

Lizzo just delivered a showstopping performance of her song “About Damn Time” at the 2023 Grammy Awards, after dazzling on the red carpet.

Showing off her truly powerful vocal range, Lizzo told the crowd that she was bringing the “church” vibes and she certainly did. She was joined by a choir in coordinated outfits that elevated Lizzo’s uplifting anthem. “I’m used to feeling alone,” she sang.

The song was nominated for three awards tonight, including Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best Pop Vocal Performance. Lizzo is also nominated for two other awards tied to her 2022 album, Special, as she earned nods for the coveted Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Despite the accolades, Lizzo was on-the-fence about putting out the song. “I was turning in my masters in March, I wrote ‘About Damn Time’ in February. And I was like, this one? I don’t know about this one, ’cause the hook wasn’t done,” she said during her Hot Ones appearance. “It wasn’t there yet.”

However, as she finished working on the song, she realized that she had another major hit on her hands. “The ‘I’ve been so down and under pressure, I’m way too fine to be this stressed’ — it’s like, hello!” Lizzo added.

Stevie Wonder Led A Rollicking Motown Tribute Alongside Chris Stapleton And Smokey Robinson At The 2023 Grammys

Aside from the handing out of awards, the other major reason to watch the Grammys is for the performances, as the Recording Academy routinely recruits the brightest stars in music to take the stage. They nailed it this year, with performers including Harry Styles, Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Steve Lacy, Lizzo, Kim Petras, Sam Smith, Brandi Carlile, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Chris Stapleton, DJ Khaled, and Luke Combs. There’s also a terrific cross-generational performance that just went down: Stevie Wonder took the stage with a number of guests.

“Thank you, but stop,” Wonder said to start his time on stage as the audience applauded. He then introduced his band and kicked off with a rendition of The Temptations’ “The Way You Do The Things You Do.” Smokey Robinson then joined in for his own “Tears Of A Clown” before Chris Stapleton joined in on “Higher Ground.”

Neither Wonder nor Stapleton are nominated for any Grammys this year, but both artists certainly have a history with the show. Wonder is one of the most decorated winners in Grammy history, in fact: He’s been nominated an amazing 75 times and has won 25 of them, first in 1973 with “Superstition” and “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life” winning awards in 1973, and most recently in 2006, when his and Tony Bennett’s “For Once In My Life” won the Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.

Stapleton, meanwhile, has a strong Grammys winning percentage, as he’s won eight of the 17 awards for which he’s been nominated. He won three awards last year, all for material from his 2020 album Starting Over.

Grammys Host Trevor Noah Introduced Adele To Her Secret Idol, Dwayne Johnson (AKA The Rock)

Being a good award show means juggling a lot of different responsibilities. As three-time Grammys host Trevor Noah put it tonight, in addition to keeping the show moving along and keeping the crowd entertained with riffs between segments, he’s got to know stuff about the audience. Stuff like how much LL Cool J loves breakfast cereal (or so he says).

But not only did Noah have to keep that information handy, but he also got to put it to good use. Noting that pop star Adele is a huge fan of actor Dwayne Johnson but has never met him, Trevor joked that he didn’t have Dwayne Johnson waiting in the wings to pop out on her — but he did have “The Rock,” Johnson’s wrestling alter ego.

It was a pretty sweet — and funny — moment, as Adele is clearly overjoyed to meet her Hollywood hero, popping up to get a nice hug from him. Naturally, fans watching and tweeting along on Twitter all had the same joke about poor Rich Paul, who has been dating Adele since at least the summer of 2021.

Adele is up for seven awards tonight, including Record, Song, and Album Of The Year. You can follow along with the winners as we update our list here.

Brandi Carlile Brought Rock To The 2023 Grammys With An In-Your-Face Performance Of ‘Broken Horses’

Brandi Carlile has firmly established herself as a Grammy Awards mainstay. Over the course of her career, she has earned a whopping 24 nominations and come away with eight wins. She’s also a frequent performer during the ceremony, like last year, when she owned the stage with a rendition of “Right On Time.” That didn’t change during the ongoing 2023 Grammys: She has seven nominations and she just delivered a performance.

Carlile was adorably introduced by her wife and their two kids before launching into “Broken Horses.” Joined by her band, they ran through the guitar-driven track and she dominated the stage as she has multiple times before, proving yet again that she’s one of music’s premiere live performers today.

As for nominations, Carlile is all over the board this year. Her 2021 album In These Silent Days is up for Album Of The Year and Best Americana Album. Her Lucius-featuring song “You And Me On The Rock” is nominated for Record Of The Year, Best Americana Performance, and Best American Roots Song. Lastly, before the ceremony even started, Carlile picked up wins with her two other nominations: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, both for “Broken Horses.”

Grammys host Trevor Noah has noted that hosting the show has made him a bigger fan of Carlile, saying in 2022, “Brandi Carlile was my favorite live performance at last year’s Grammys. She was stellar. She had a command of not just the stage, but every single note that she was performing in a way that few artists can achieve consistently.”

LeBron James Is Either Commenting On Kyrie Irving To Dallas Or Listening To Taylor Swift

When Kyrie Irving issued a trade request on Friday, not many expected the Nets to find a trade for him by the end of the weekend. Irving’s market figured to be complicated, to say the least, but on Sunday the Dallas Mavericks made an offer Brooklyn couldn’t pass up, sending Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and picks to the Nets for the All-Star guard.

While the Mavs were one of the teams on the list of suitors from the beginning, they were not considered the team most motivated to land Irving, as most expected the Lakers to reunite Irving with LeBron James in their pursuit of a roster overhaul. The problem the Lakers ran into was they just did not have a good enough package to offer Brooklyn, and the Mavs’ offer was simply more enticing. Russell Westbrook and picks wasn’t exactly a great option for the Nets, who are trying to thread the needle between getting some future assets while also giving themselves a chance to remain competitive with Kevin Durant, for now, still on the roster and coming back soon.

As such, the Lakers now enter deadline week facing even more pressure to upgrade the roster than already existed, because their top target just went to a fellow West playoff contender. That seems to have not sat very well with LeBron James, who didn’t shy away from noting he thinks Kyrie would help the Lakers this weekend after Irving issued his trade request, with a tweet that is either some commentary on Kyrie to Dallas or he’s listening to some Taylor Swift on a Sunday evening.

No one knows how to play their role in the NBA’s soap opera better than LeBron, and with just a few days until the trade deadline, he will continue to exert whatever pressure he can on the Lakers to make another move — without outright saying that, of course. With Kyrie now in Dallas, it’ll be interesting to see who Rob Pelinka and company target and/or circle back on, but for now the player James has been trying to get since this summer is headed to Dallas.

Shania Twain’s Striking 2023 Grammys Red Carpet Look Is Cross Between Culinary Chic And Cartoon Villian

Yes, the Grammy Awards are about what artists walk about with the coveted gramophone trophy. However, the red carpet looks are also something to watch. So far tonight, there have been a ton of great looks, including from nominee Lizzo’s romantic sunset orange custom Dolce Gabbana look. But just as with music, when there are hits, there are some flops.

Country music icon Shania Twain’s red carpet look has fans divided. Twain has had several memorable fashion looks throughout the year, in her public appearances at award shows and in her music videos. The songwriter shocked fans when she debuted a pastel pink hair look at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. Now, fans at home tuned into the Grammy Awards red carpet live stream are sounding off on her latest bold look.

She took to the carpet wearing a black and white sequin polka dot suit with a matching oversized top hat, a look designed by British-American fashion designer Harris Reed. The entertainer has quickly become a meme online. Fans are comparing the look to despised Disney villain Cruella DeVille. Others have called the look a chic cow.

Regardless of others’ thoughts on it, Twain is in love with the look, telling Variety, “I’m having a lot of fun. Fashion is all about experimenting and enjoying being out of your own skin sometimes. It’s kind of liberating.”

Alleged Grown Man Chris Brown Has A Childish Social Media Meltdown Aimed At Robert Glasper Following His 2023 Grammys Loss

Chris Brown isn’t too happy with Record Academy. After losing the Grammy for Best R&B album to Robert Glasper, the R&B crooner took to Instagram to share his thoughts, putting the annual award show on blast for not crowning him as the winner. The singer was nominated for his Breezy (Deluxe) album, which was released last June.

Brown found himself with stiff competition this year for the R&B category. Along with Glasper and Brown, three other artists were nominated for the award, including Hip Hop Soul legend Mary J. Blige‘s album Good Morning Gorgeous, Lucky Daye’s Candydrip, and PJ Morton’s album, Watch The Sun. But Glasper’s Black Radio III album won the coveted award on Sunday night.

The “Go Crazy” hitmaker was not having any of it and decided to take his feelings to social media.

“WHO THE F*CK IS ROBERT GLASPER,” the singer posted on Instagram.

The singer continued by taking a few jabs at the renowned pianist, writing, “I gotta get my skills up… I’m a start playing the harmonica.”

Glasper is one of Jazz music’s premiere artists, with a career spanning over two decades. The pianist is also a record producer, songwriter, and musical arranger. Glapser’s work bridges several different musical and artistic genres. The 44-year-old Houston musician has won several awards throughout his career, including four Grammy Awards, and received nearly nine nominations across eight categories. He’s even played some keyboards on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly album.

That said, you would think that Brown might have some idea about Glasper, but alas, no.

Glasper must have seen this moment coming, posting this last week (which Brown took for his own IG):

Drake Wins Big At 2023 Grammys Despite Not Submitting Any Music

It seems winning is just inevitable for Drake. Despite not submitting any music for the 2023 Grammys, the Toronto rap star still walked away with an award Sunday night. The “Rich Flex” rapper won best melodic rap performance for his guest appearance on Future’s No.1 hit, “Wait for U,” which also features vocals from Nigerian singer Tems. The track appears on Future’s album, I Never Liked You.

Even without entering any new music, Drake earned himself four nominations this year. Along with his work on “Wait for U,” the rapper also co-wrote and earned nominations for Jack Harlow‘s “Churchill Downs” and “Heated” from Beyoncé‘s album, Renaissance.

Unlike in years past, Drake opted out of submitting any work from his latest solo album, Honestly, Nevermind, or any of its singles like “Jimmy Crooks,” “Sticky,” and “Massive,” for awards. The now five-time Grammy winner has been critical of the awards show in the past. He even withdrew his two nominations for the 2022 awards.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, while attending the 2023 Recording Academy Honors, Drake honored Lil Wayne with a video message — one of the award’s honorees, along with Missy Elliot and Dr. Dre — and even took some jabs at Grammys while doing it.

“Good evening, Grammys. Well, I haven’t gotten to say that since 2016,” the rapper said in the video.

He continued, “Lil Wayne… I love you so much. I know I probably get annoying with saying how much you mean to me and my family, but I think I speak on behalf of everybody when I say that our careers, our cadences, our melodies, maybe our face tats or our outfits or our decisions, in general, would not have been the same without your natural gift to just be yourself.”
