Avatar opened so long ago. How long ago? Barack Obama was still in his first year in his first term. His successor had only recently joined Twitter, which was still young. There had only been two films in the MCU. It’s been a while, both for Pandora and for its creator, James Cameron, who hasn’t made anything since. He has to make up for lost time, and boy has he.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the 13-years-later sequel Avatar: The Way of Water has an official running time, and it’s a doozy: three hours and 10 minutes. For some perspective, the original Avatar was a “mere” two hours and 41 minutes. Still, its sequel isn’t quite as long as another Cameron picture, Titanic, which was long the highest-grossing movie in film history (not adjusted for inflation) despite being three hours and 14 minutes.

Much has changed since 2009. For one thing, movies are generally longer. Avengers: Endgame ran three hours and two minutes. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever clocks in at original Avatar length: 161 minutes. Then there’s Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. When it came out in 2009, Avatar was a game-changer. Way of Water may be, too; after all, it’s already allowed Kate Winslet to beat one of Tom Cruise’s records. But at least it’s conforming to one trend.

It’s been a good, long while since Shelley Duvall appeared on the big screen — two decades, to be exact. What’s she been up to? Basically she’s just been chilling a small Texas town, enjoying life, minding her own business, except when contacted by the occasional journalist or filmmaker. (Or Dr. Phil, but more on that in a moment.) But now it seems she’s either baby-stepping back into the movies or simply doing a one-off return.

As per Deadline, Duvall will make a small appearance in The Forest Hills, an indie horror starring Edward Furlong, Chiko Mendez, and Dee Wallace. The film, Deadline reports, “follows a disturbed man who is tormented by nightmarish visions, after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill Mountains.” Duvall will play the mother of said man (played by Mendez), who is also his inner voice.

From the ‘70s through the ‘90s, Duvall was a staple of American cinema, as well as television. She did seven films with Robert Altman and endured an epic (and emotionally taxing) Stanley Kubrick shoot with The Shining. In the ‘80s, she launched her own children’s show, Faerie Tale Theatre, which brought on big stars to juice up oft-told stories.

By the mid-‘90s, she’d lost interest in Hollywood, and she and her partner, musician Dan Gilroy, high-tailed it to the depths of Texas, where they remain today. There was much speculation about what happened to her, which was not helped by a notorious 2016 Dr. Phil segment, in which she was portrayed as unhinged and unwell. Her friends and family condemned the segment, saying it was unrepresentative. A 2021 piece by The Hollywood Reporter painted a more complex portrait of her current life, finding her to be happy and content.

Anyway, welcome back, Shelley Duvall. The movies (and television) have been all the lesser without you.

Matthew Perry’s Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing isn’t even out yet, but it’s already become the most attention-nabbing memoir in ages. On one hand, it appears to be a bracing depiction of one man’s harrowing addiction. On the other, it has him talking about people he’s made out with and others he may or may not inexplicably hate. It also has dirt on his fellow Friends alumni, including one he encountered long a few years before they wound up with two of the splashiest gigs on television.

In his book, Perry talks about how he first met Aniston through mutual acquaintances sometime in the early ‘90s. “I was immediately taken by her (how could I not be?) and liked her, and I got the sense she was intrigued, too — maybe it was going to be something,” Perry writes. “Back then I got two jobs in one day — one was Haywire, an America’s Funniest Home Videos-type show, and the other was a sitcom. So I called Jennifer and I said, ‘You’re the first person I wanted to tell this to!’”

But Perry realized he was coming on too strong. “Looking back, it was clear that this made her think I liked her too much or in the wrong kind of way… and I only compounded the error by then asking her out,” Perry writes. “She declined (which made it very difficult to actually go out with her), but said that she’d love to be friends with me, and I compounded the compound by blurting, ‘We can’t be friends!’”

As fate would have it, the two would wind up spending 11 seasons on one of the most enduring sitcoms of the ‘90s. “Fairly early in the making of Friends I realized that I was still crushing badly on Jennifer Aniston,” Perry writes. “Our hellos and goodbyes became awkward. And then I’d ask myself, How long can I look at her? Is three seconds too long?”

Eventually, Perry’s crush on Aniston “disappeared in the hot glow of the show” as the show’s popularity skyrocketed. That helped kill it. “That, and her deafening lack of interest,” he adds.

Perry elaborated upon this tidbit during his big sit-down with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, which aired on Friday night. He revealed Aniston wasn’t the only Friends cast member he crushed on. “Well, how can you not have a crush on Jenny? And Courteney [Cox]? And Lisa [Kudrow]?” Perry told Sawyer. “It made it kind of difficult to go to work, because I had to pretend that I didn’t.”

Ahead of BTS’ hiatus as they serve their required time in the Korean military, member Jin shared his solo single, “The Astronaut.” The song was co-written by Coldplay has already received much love from the boyband’s fans, the BTS Army. Tonight (October 28), Jin made an appearance at Coldplay’s Buenos Aires concert, where he performed the song alongside the band.

“The Astronaut” marks the second time that Jin has collaborated with Coldplay, the first being on the BTS-assisted “My Universe” from their 2021 album, Music Of The Spheres.

Before Jin arrived to the stage, Coldplay’s lead vocalist Chris Martin recalled how the collaboration came together (per NME).

“About six months ago, one of [BTS’] members called me up,” said Martin, “and he said, ‘I have to leave the band in December [to join] the army in Korea because that’s the rules there. And he said, ‘I need a song that says goodbye to everybody for a little while, and tells them that I love them… And so I said, ‘Okay, we’ll do a song together.’ And instead of being worried about it, I feel so excited about it, so grateful for this relationship that we have with BTS. And then this song arrived, and I was like, ‘This is one of our best songs – let’s give it to this gentleman.’”

The Phoenix Suns are off to a strong start to the 2022-23 season at 3-1 with some wins over West contenders like the Mavs and Warriors, which isn’t a surprise based on their performance the last two regular seasons but is a very positive sign after what can only be described as a disastrous end to last year and offseason.

Among the biggest storylines coming into the season in Phoenix was how their young star center Deandre Ayton would respond after they tried, by all accounts, to trade him during the offseason, only to find themselves matching an offer sheet to bring him back. Through the first four games, Ayton showed he would continue to be a pro and produce on the court despite any lingering frustrations with the organization, averaging 18.2 points and 9.5 rebounds to start the season.

On Friday night, Ayton had four points and three boards in his first eight minutes of work, looking like he was on the way to another solid night against the Pelicans when he came down on Jonas Valanciunas’ foot after a jump shot and turned over his left ankle.

Ayton would leave and eventually go back to the locker room, where he was diagnosed with a sprained ankle and ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Given Ayton was able to at least get up and try to walk it off a bit hopefully is an indication that it’s not a severe sprain, but it is one the Suns will be cautious about with their young star center and keep him out for the rest of the night at the least. We’ll have to wait and see what his status is for Sunday’s game against Houston or if he could miss any extended time after further testing tomorrow.

About an hour before the Spurs were scheduled to tipoff a home game against the Bulls, the team issued a stunning release that they were waiving Joshua Primo, the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Primo played in the first four games for San Antonio, averaging 7 points per game in just over 23 minutes per, before sitting out Wednesday’s game with what was listed as “left glute soreness.” His release shocked the NBA as the Spurs had just picked up his third-year option on October 10, guaranteeing his $4.5 million salary for next season, and he was one of a few point guards on the San Antonio roster. There were no details on why Primo was released given, with Gregg Popovich declining to speak on it beyond the vague statement in the team’s official release, and while many assumed something must have happened off the court, no NBA newsbreakers could find out any information on specifics.

Later Friday night, Primo released a statement himself to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski explaining that he was seeking help for “previous trauma I have suffered” and would be focusing on his mental health treatment for the time being after being released.

Hopefully Primo is able to get the help he needs and can feel comfortable speaking on whatever he is dealing with currently in the future, as he notes he hopes to be able to help others in the future.

The Philadelphia 76ers have been among the biggest disappointments through the first week-plus of the NBA season, entering Friday night’s game in Toronto at 1-3 on the young season. Facing a road back-to-back in Toronto followed by a trip to Chicago for a game tomorrow, the Sixers sat Joel Embiid for some rest as he continues to work back into shape after an offseason plantar fasciitis issue, making life all the more difficult against the Raptors.

Doc Rivers chose to fight fire with fire without his All-NBA center, going small against a team that does that as well as anyone, and he was rewarded with an impressive 112-90 win from Philly, led by a career-best performance from Tyrese Maxey. The third-year guard erupted for 44 points on 15-of-20 shooting, including 9-of-12 from three-point range, as he was unstoppable stepping into a larger role with Embiid sitting out.

In the first half, Maxey was perfect from the field, making all 10 of his field goal attempts including seven three-pointers, as he poured in 27 points on the Raptors to push the Sixers to an early lead.

He would continue that strong shotmaking performance in the second half, albeit not on the same perfect efficiency, and his 44 points boosted the Sixers to a much needed victory.

Maxey set a new career-high with the outburst and showed his potential as a lead scorer, and the challenge now becomes how do the Sixers unlock that potential when he shares the floor with his two fellow high-usage star teammates in Embiid and James Harden — who seemed happy to let Maxey cook on this particular night.

In honor of the start of this year’s Halloween weekend, Kim Kardashian shared some snaps of her childrens’ costumes on social media. The theme? ’90s legends. North, the oldest daughter, pays tribute to the late Aaliyah with a matching Tommy Hilfiger set and a necklace. The outfit was nearly identical to Aaliyah’s 1997 advertisements for the company’s Next Generation Jeans campaign.

Kardashian’s six-year-old son, Saint, poses next to his siblings as Snoop Dogg. He’s dressed in a flannel and what appears to be a pair of Converse sneakers. Meanwhile, her second daughter, Chicago, is costumed as Sade — complete with tiny gold hoops, the classic Candian tuxedo, and even a replica of the bracelet. Needless to say, the inspiration pulled for each outfit was incredibly well duplicated.

Last, but certainly not least, Kardashian’s youngest son, Psalm, went as Eazy-E. He rocks some shades, a baseball hat reading “Compton,” and a pair of black, fingerless gloves. Each child’s costume is a masterclass in Halloween. “THE ICONS – AALIYAH, SADE, SNOOP, EAZY E,” she captioned the post. The final slide features comparison shots used of all four musicians.

While each child appeared in both a group photo and individual portraits, Kardashian herself did not. With Halloween steadily approaching on Monday, the reality star’s costume has yet to be revealed. Last year, she went as a robot cowgirl.

On her first headlining tour since 2018, Jessie Reyez is bringing her album, Yessie, on the road. Joined by the likes of Armani White, Nija, Sadboi, and Leila Day, Reyez has already brought her much-anticipated Yessie tour to cities like Miami, New Orleans, and Dallas.

So far, Reyez has performed mostly songs from Yessie, like its standout track, “Mutual Friend.” She’s also performed a fan favorite, “Imported” from her debut album, Before Love Came To Kill Us, as well as the album’s title track. Additionally, “Apple Juice” from Reyez’s 2018 EP Being Human In Public is another one of the many songs she’s performed while on tour.

Still hot off the release of his third album, It’s Only Me, which has become his third consecutive chart-topping album, Lil Baby has dropped the video for “From Now On.”

“From Now On,” which features Future, quickly became a fan favorite upon the album’s release. On the track, Lil Baby and Future decide to carry themselves as trap stars, but also fashion icons.

“Switchin’ up my image, no more pictures with my styrofoam / Why the f*ck I keep buyin’ these houses if I’m never home,” asks Baby on the opening lines of the track.

Later on in the track, Future swoops in, rapping, “Codeine drinkin’, but I swear the money getting me higher / Just told the judge I’m on pills, my mansion got marble / Charge a M for a show, still send bail to you tomorrow.”

In the song’s accompanying video, Future and Baby are seen wearing colorful fashions, including lush coats, vibrant shirts and hats, and flashy jewels. While they have reached mogul and style icon status, the two make it known that they are still running the rap game.
