After his wife of 50 years died, he found a secret letter she had hidden from him for decades

Tony Trapani and his wife were married for 50 years despite the heartache of being unable to have children. “She wanted children,” Trapani told Fox 17. “She couldn’t have any. She tried and tried.” Even though they endured the pain of infertility, Tony’s love for his wife never wavered and he cherished every moment they spent together.

After his wife passed away when Tony was 81 years old, he undertook the heartbreaking task of sorting out all of her belongings. That’s when he stumbled upon a carefully concealed letter in a filing cabinet hidden for over half a century.

The letter was addressed to Tony and dated March 1959, but this was the first time he had seen it. His wife must have opened it, read it and hid it from him. The letter came from Shirley Childress, a woman Tony had once been close with before his marriage. She reached out, reminiscing about their past and revealing a secret that would change Tony’s world forever.

“Dear Tony, I bet you are surprised to hear from me after so many years. I was just thinking about you tonight like so many other nights. But I thought I would write you and find out how you are,” the letter reads. “Tony, please don’t be angry or surprised to hear this. I have a little boy. He is five-years- old now – grey eyes and beautiful black hair. What I am trying to say Tony is he is your son.”

“Please, Tony if you can find it in your heart to forgive me, please come and see him,” Shirley wrote in the letter. “Every day he asks me where is his daddy and believe me Tony I can’t even answer him anymore. If would be forever grateful to you if you would just see him. … I’ll close now hoping and praying you will answer. P.S. His name is Samuel Duane.”

Now, Tony faced the fact that he had a son that would be around 60 years old and he set out to find him. For over a year, Trapani’s sister tried to track down the mysterious Samuel Duane Childress, until she finally contacted his wife, Donna.

Tony and Samuel met in January 2015 and he felt like a new dad. After meeting his father, Samuel said his mother told him she sent the letter, but Tony never responded. “Why my wife didn’t tell me,” said Trapani. “I don’t know. She wanted children. She couldn’t have any. She tried and tried.”

“I always asked my mom, I said, ‘Well what does he look like?” Samuel said. “She said, ‘Well, go look in the mirror.”

The two met and caught up on a lifetime of memories with the understanding that they could never change the past. “Just to know him now is so important to me. It’s going to fill that void,” Samuel said. But just to be sure, Tony took a paternity test to ensure they were father and son.

The test came back negative, revealing that Tony was not the father. The news upset Tony and Samuel, but they still had a unique bond. They shared a relationship with Samuel’s mother and both have been on an incredibly wild ride after Tony found the mysterious letter.

“They’re keeping that bond,” Donna said. “That paper doesn’t mean anything to him. That bond has been made—and we’re going to move on from here.”

Self-defense expert shares ‘Ted Bundy rule’ to protect women from men who appear harmless

Katie Ring, known on social media as The.Self.Defense.Girl, recently shared a success story on TikTok after a woman followed her “Ted Bundy Rule.” The big takeaway from the story is that even when people appear harmless, it could all be a clever rouse to put you in extreme danger.

Ring is a self-defense instructor, martial artist and former D1 athlete who started her TikTok and Instagram profiles (@the.self.defense.girl) after a man assaulted twenty women in San Francisco and had still not been arrested.

“One self-defense rule I want every woman and child to remember is what I call the Ted Bundy rule,” Ring shared on TikTok. “That is, if a grown man needs help, he’s typically going to ask another man and not a woman or a child. So, if a grown man asks you for help, I want you to question why he’s asking for your help in particular.”

One of RIng’s followers heard her share the rule in the past and put it to good use after someone sketchy asked her for help at 10 p.m. in a grocery store. At the self-check-out, a man on crutches asked her to help him carry his groceries to his truck. She said no to the man because she thought it was “weird” he asked her instead of a male employee.

@the.self.defense.girl

One of the most important self-defense rules if you are a woman or a child, is if a grown man is asking for your help, always question why. Obviously not everyone has bad intentions, but your safety is more important than someone elses feelings! . #selfdefense #safety #safetytips #womensselfdefense #tiptok #tedbundy #fyp #foryou #viral #greenscreen

“Exactly like she said, the guy could have had no bad intentions, but as women and children, we just can’t take that risk,” Ring said. “This is the exact tactic that Ted Bundy used to lure his victims. He would have a cast or crutches and ask women to help him to his car, where he would proceed to knock them out, kidnap them and unalive them.”

Ted Bundy was a serial killer in the mid-’70s who was known for hiding behind his good looks, intelligence and clean-cut image to murder at least 30 women. One of the tactics he used to lure women was to feign injury by using crutches, wearing casts or arm slings and asking women for help taking things to his car.

On one such occasion, after dropping books in front of Georgeann Hawkins at the University of Washington, Bundy convinced her to return them to his car. As she bent over to place the books in his seat, he hit her in the head with a crowbar.

The video was a great reminder for women everywhere to be cautious when a strange man asks them for help, especially when other men are around. Some people may feel uncomfortable saying no to someone asking for help. But the commenters shared why that should be the last of their worries. “The thing is, if he had no bad intentions and is a nice guy, he won’t mind you saying no. If he gets angry, he wasn’t a good guy,” one commenter wrote.

Another commenter suggested if a woman finds herself in that position at a grocery store, they grab an employee to help the person bring the groceries to their car. “Smart move! Ima say, ‘sure thing! Let me grab an employee for ya!’” a commenter wrote.

Ultimately, being safe means being assertive and telling people no. But that’s a lot easier than following their wishes and winding up in extreme danger.

“So remember, your safety is more important than anyone else’s feelings,” Ring concluded the video.

Nail salon made an ad that’s so funny people are taking roadtrips just for a manicure

There are a lot of nail salons out there and without word of mouth it can be impossible to know which salon to visit. This is why many businesses have social media pages to advertise services without having to spend a lot of money on television ad space. Advertising pictures and videos of amazing work can help keep a steady flow of customers, but one Canadian nail salon is going with a different approach.

Henry Pro Nails in Toronto, Canada is leaving the internet in stitches after creating a viral ad for his nail salon. The video takes several viral video clips but instead of the expected ending, Henry pops in completing the viral moment in hilarious different ways.

It opens with a familiar viral video of a man on a stretcher being pulled by EMS when the stretcher overturns flopping the man onto the ground. But instead of it ending with the injured man on the ground, Henry lays out on the floor of his salon and delivers his first line, “come to my nail salon, your nails will look beautiful.” The video doesn’t stop there and has certainly having the desired effect.

In another clip, a man holds his leg straight up and somehow flips himself into a split. When the camera cuts back to Henry, he’s in the splits on the floor of his nail salon promoting loyalty discounts. The ad is insanely creative and people in the comments can’t get enough, some are even planning a trip to Toronto just to get their nails done by the now internet famous, Henry.

“I will fly to Canada to get my nails done here just because of this hilarious video. You win this trend for sure,” one woman says.

“Get yourself a passport and make a roadtrip! My bf and I are legit getting ours and its only a 4 hr drive from where we are in Pennsylvania. Their prices are a lot better than other places I’ve been too,” another person says while convincing a fellow American citizen to make the trip.

“Omg, where are you located? I would fly to get my nails done by you,” one person writes.

“The pedicure I had at Henry’s was the best I have ever had. Unfortunately made all other places disappointing and I don’t live close enough for Henry’s to be my regular spot,” someone else shares.

It just goes to show that creative advertising can get people to go just about anywhere, but the service gets them to come back. This isn’t Henry’s first rodeo at making creative ads, though this one seems to be the one that takes the cake. If you’re ever in Toronto and find yourself needing an emergency manicure, Henry’s Pro Nails is apparently the place to be.

Child-free woman cancels trip with mom friends because she’s tired of hearing about babies

Getting married and having a child is a huge life change and so when a group of friends goes through the same experience together, it’s a great way to bond. Unfortunately, for some people, these changes on the domestic front can take over their lives and become their entire personality.

People who are single and aren’t looking to have kids any time soon can have a hard time relating to their friends who are married with children because they have less in common. Further, when you don’t have children, it can be a little tedious to hear people talk all day about lactation, sleep schedules and spitting up.

These topics can be boring to people who have children, too.

A Redditor who goes by Remarkable_Lake410, who we’ll call RL for brevity’s sake, recently ran into this problem with her friends. Instead of feigning interest in married mom life, she decided to be honest with them about why she didn’t want to join them on a trip.

child-free woman, Reddit, writing post

“I (27F) have a group of female friends (8 of us). We have been friends for over a decade, since school. Now, we don’t live in the same place, but we meet up a couple of times a year for a weekend on an Airbnb. This used to be a weekend of good food, drinks, hot tub, etc.” she wrote on the AITH forum.

“Around five of my friends are either married or in very long-term relationships. Of these five, two either have a baby or are pregnant. I will be seeing all of my friends this year for various wedding, friend and baby events. I have been invited to this year’s girls’ trip, but I have said I can’t come. I didn’t originally provide a reason,” she continued.

But a friend pushed her to find out why she didn’t want to go on the trip and she was honest: She didn’t want to be stuck constantly hearing about babies, marriage and weddings on a trip that was going to cost a significant amount of money.

“[Last time], I listened to one of my friends talk about her breastfeeding plans, with vengeance, for over an hour. She is not pregnant or trying. Truthfully, it’s boring, and it feels dismissive,” RL wrote. It’s also a really expensive way to feel bad about myself.”

When her friend heard her reason, she was “really hurt,” and it felt like RL didn’t care about her and her other friends. So, RL asked the Reddit forum if she was in the wrong for being honest and skipping a trip that would be all about marriage and babies.

The post received over 4,000 responses that were overwhelmingly supportive for RL.

“On the surface, this seems like it’s just about engagements, weddings and babies. You go out of your way to be constantly supportive of them. However they don’t reciprocate that for you. They can’t relate to anything or want to relate to anything outside of their lives. It would sort of be like if you just won an award, but all they talked about was the pie they just ate that morning,” Dependant_praline_93 wrote in the most popular comment.

“We all change as we get older. You naturally drift apart from some friends, especially if their lifestyle changes dramatically (think married with children, in particular). I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of money to spend 3 days with a group that had such dis-similar interests. And I don’t think it was wrong to be truthful when your friend asked you why you wouldn’t go,” Smokin_HOT_Ice added.

baby, happy couple, baby photo

One commenter with kids has a close friend who is a child-free and she has made an effort to ask her about her life and interests of just talking about parenting.

“I was 38 when I had my first child and I read an article in Working Mother magazine when I was pregnant, and it said not to be the jerk who always talks about your pregnancy and your baby to your friends, especially the ones without babies,” JellyBear135 wrote. “When I see her, I always ask about her work, her activities outside of work and recently, her new baby dog. She lives alone and doesn’t have a lot of people who always ask about her life so I make sure I always do. I check in via text every couple of weeks to ask her about her life.”

After receiving a huge response from her post, RL wrote an update revealing that another friend who’s in the same boat decided not to go on the trip as well. “I have spoken to one of my other friends invited on the trip (who is also not at the baby stage of life); she is also not going on the trip and said she is not attending for the same reason,” RL wrote.

It seems the big takeaway from RL’s dilemma isn’t just that stage-of-life changes such as marriage and having babies can create chasms in friendships. But we need to make sure that we’re not just talking about ourselves to our friends but listening to them as well. Because a one-way friendship isn’t a friendship at all.

The 10 Best Lines From Kendrick Lamar’s Drake Diss ‘Euphoria’

kendrick_drake_euphoria(1024X450)
Getty Image/Merle Cooper

Today, Kendrick Lamar escalated his rap war with Drake in a huge way, launching an intercontinental ballistic missile with “Euphoria,” his response to Drake’s paired sallies, “Push-Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle.” After Kendrick initially threw down the gauntlet with his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You track “Like That,” fans were disappointed that it took him so long to clap back at Drake, especially after Drake made the critical error of employing AI reproductions of West Coast icons Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur on his latter response to “Like That.”

But any lingering disappointment was blown away — along with all expectations of plausible deniability — when Kendrick dropped “Euphoria,” the most scathing anti-Drake track from one of the Canadian competitor’s foes since “The Story Of Adidon.” In fact, that dust-up is one of the many points of contention Kendrick addresses in “Euphoria,” sneering, “F*ck all that pushin’ P, let me see you push-a-T / You better off spinnin’ again on him, you think about pushin’ me / He’s Terrance Thornton, I’m Terrance Crawford, I’m whoopin’ feet.” And that’s just one of the many, many haymakers Kendrick unloads on his opponent. Here are the 10 best lines from Kendrick’s latest Drake diss and what we think they mean.

“Cole and Aubrey know I’m a selfish n***; the crown is heavy / I pray they my real friends, if not, I’m YNW Melly”

Gifford, Florida rapper YNW Melly is currently on trial for allegedly plotting the murder of two members of his rap crew, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy, and staging the scene to look like the result of a drive-by by rivals. K. Dot likens himself to Melly and Drake and J. Cole to Melly’s victims, pointing out how they couldn’t have been friends if Melly actually did set them up. In the same way, Kendrick doesn’t see Drake or Cole as friends in the rap business, only rivals.

“I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress / I hate the way you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it’s gon’ be direct”

Self-explanatory, but it’s rare you see rappers state their emotions so plainly in rap battles. Kendrick doesn’t dress it up in any fancy metaphors, he just tells it like it is (although, on a personal note, I feel like if he REALLY didn’t like him this much, just fight it out. Let’s get all the way negative, as Vince Staples would say).

“My first one like my last one: it’s a classic, you don’t have one / Let your core audience stomach that; didn’t tell ’em where you get your abs from”

In “Push-Ups,” Drake taunts Kendrick over the lukewarm reception of his 2022 album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. “Your last one bricked, you really not on sh*t,” he mocked. “They make excuses for you ’cause they hate to see me lit.” Here, Kendrick stands up for his misunderstood album, and in a bit of a non-sequitur, redirects attention to the longstanding rumor that Drake got liposuction in order to cut a more impressive figure.

“Surprised you wanted that feature request / You know that we got some shit to address”

Not much of a diss, but more of a surprising reveal, this line dishes some behind-the-scenes dirt: That despite the tension between the two rappers, Drake still wants to work with Kendrick, who would rather air out dirty laundry than collaborate with Drake again. According to some internet rumors, the song K. Dot turned down? “First Person Shooter,” on which Drake allegedly began the latest round of “sneak-dissing.”

“When I see you stand by Sexyy Red, I believe you see two bad bitches / I believe you don’t like women, that’s real competition, you might pop ass with ’em”

On a personal level, I have to say, I’m disappointed. Rap’s love for casual misogyny rears its ugly head yet again. Kendrick isn’t quite as evolved as he made out on his last album, and yet, there’s something to the idea that Drake engages in just as much misogyny as any rapper, he just dresses it up in “nice guy” rhetoric.

“Let’s speak on percentage, show me your splits, I make sure I double back with you / You was signed to a n**** that’s signed to a n**** that said he was signed to that n****”

Here’s some inside baseball, but also a deft reminder that those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. When Drake baited Kendrick over his recording contract on “Push-Ups” (“The way you doin’ splits, bitch, your pants might rip”), he conveniently overlooked how bad his own first deal was. Now that Drake’s licensing his publishing to Republic, he’s in a better position, but it wasn’t too long ago he was in the same corner as a lot of rappers (and doing very little to improve conditions overall in the music biz).

“Why would I call around tryna get dirt on n****s? Y’all think all of my life is rap? / That’s ho sh*t, I got a son to raise, but I can see you know nothin’ ’bout that”

Another callback to “The Story Of Adidon,” Kendrick reminds listeners and Drake that rap gossip doesn’t dominate his waking hours — and that Drake had to be “bullied into being a father” (not to be a wet blanket, but I also hate this narrative for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that all this started on a record from Future, of all people).

“Am I battlin’ ghosts or AI? N**** feelin’ like Joel Osteen / Funny, he was in a film called AI and my sixth sense tellin’ me to off him”

Off the wordplay alone, this might be the best bar in the whole damn song, although Kendrick accidentally (?) pulls a Mrs. Howard from Abbott Elementary (and like Sheryl Lee Ralph’s iconic character, we all know what he means). For all you kids whose birth year starts with a “2,” Haley Joel Osment (the person he meant to reference, not mega-church televangelist Joel Osteen) was a child actor best known for two roles: The Sixth Sense and AI: Artificial Intelligence. In the first, he played a traumatized child who could “see dead people” and in the latter, he portrayed an abandoned android hoping to become a real boy a la Pinocchio.

Kendrick name-checks Osment to take another dig at Drake for using an AI Tupac voice on “Taylor Made,” and the perceived disrespect of using a deceased rap legend to make his point for him using technology — i.e. “ghost or AI.” Dot’s play on “sixth sense” ties the metaphor together but also underscores his natural instinct for battle.

“Whoever that’s f*ckin’ with him, f*ck you n****s, and f*ck the industry too / If you takin’ it there, I’m takin’ it further; psst, that’s somethin’ that you don’t wanna do”

Kendrick ends with a familiar refrain, calling back to his longstanding distaste for industry politics and cold regard for fame. However, he also ends on a warning to Drake — his reprisal could well be even more vicious and revelatory if Drake decides to continue the game.

Chris Hemsworth Was Brutally Honest About Which Hemsworth Brother Is The Favorite

Chris Hemsworth
Getty Image

A gaggle of men named Luke, Chris, and Liam might sound like sixth grade bullies who try to steal your lunch money, but they are actually a group of talented and good-looking actors that you probably have seen on your screens over the years. But beyond being Australian and having fantastic genes, the Hemsworth trio are first and foremost brothers, which means that they were born with the unique ability to be competitive all the time. Starring in Marvel movies probably didn’t help Chris too much.

The middle brother appears in the upcoming Mad Max prequel Furiosa alongside Anya Taylor-Joy. But even though deserted wastelands are scary, nothing is as scary as growing up with two brothers, though Chris seems to think he was the favorite.

In a new lie detector interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth was asked about his famous siblings, and he did not hold back (and briefly broke the machine):

VANITY FAIR: Your older brother said that growing up, you fought so much it was like the Hemsworth House Of Horrors. Were you the troublemaker?

HEMSWORTH: One of. One of three. Was I the main troublemaker…maybe.

VANITY FAIR: Is it because you have middle child energy?

HEMSWORTH: I think so.

TEST ADMINISTRATOR: That is true.

VANITY FAIR: Are you the favorite?

HEMSWORTH: Yes [laughs].

TEST ADMINISTRATOR: Also truthful.

HEMSWORTH: [laughs, breaks machine] Sorry! Am I the favorite? That’s hilarious. I mean, I think I am. Sorry Luke, Sorry Liam. The machine doesn’t lie. There was so much truth this thing like exploded off my chest.

Liam is likely playing Geralt somewhere in a mysterious forest, so he probably won’t mind. It’s hard to get a read on Luke, though, who seems to be the most elusive of the bunch. Hopefully they can get through this.

Report: Wolves Coach Chris Finch Needs Knee Surgery And May Not Be On The Bench For The Start Of The Nuggets Series

chris finch
Bally Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves are moving onto the Western Conference Semifinals after sweeping the Phoenix Suns, and on Monday night, we learned that they will end up facing the defending champion Denver Nuggets. The Wolves will enter the series relatively healthy, although there’s one unusual exception to this: head coach Chris Finch, who left the waning moments of Game 4 against Phoenix after a freak collision with Mike Conley.

Finch held his knee and found himself in some serious pain, and on Tuesday, we learned that he needs to undergo surgery to repair a ruptured patellar tendon. As a result, Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN report that it’s possible Finch won’t be able to join the team on the bench for the start of the Nuggets series.

In the early stages of his rehabilitation, Finch will be required to keep right leg immobilized in a brace. If Finch isn’t able to park on the sidelines to start the series, assistant Micah Nori will coach Game 1 on Saturday, with Finch likely communicating to the bench from the locker room, sources said.

Nori has been a trusted Finch assistant for years, and took over on the bench after he left the game against Phoenix. There’s no word on how Finch communicating from the locker room would work — whether it’d be via a headset or someone running back and forth between the bench and the locker room — but ESPN did report that he should get the all clear to travel to Denver for Game 1.

When Does Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ Come Out?

Francis Ford Coppola’s storied career includes iconic titles such as The Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, and The Outsiders, but his passion project has eluded completion. Decades in the making, Megalopolis has finally been inching closer to theaters with a cast including Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Dustin Hoffman, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, James Remar, Talia Shire, and Jason Schwartzman.

The film’s scope is mammoth with New York City in rubble after a “devastating disaster” with an architect aiming to rebuild the Big Apple as a utopia. As for the production itself? The past handful of years have only added further chaos to getting the project off the ground. Back in January 2023, Hollywood Reporter claimed that an expanding budget and exiting crew did not bode well for this Coppola dream to hit the screen, but there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel with a film festival premiere this year.

When Does Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ Come Out?

According to Variety, the movie will debut in a gala slot at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17. There, Coppola undoubtedly hopes to secure a distributor for the American Zoetrope-produced film, which Coppola has invested $100 million of his own money.

Once a producer seals a deal, then a theatrical release date should surface.

Coppola told Vanity Fair about his original genesis for the movie: “The seeds for Megalopolis were planted when as a kid I saw H.G. Wells’s Things to Come.” He added, “This 1930s Korda classic is about building the world of tomorrow, and has always been with me, first as the ‘boy scientist’ I was and later as a filmmaker.”

The film has certainly been a long time coming — 2001 is when Coppola first headed into a production office for casting and second-unit shooting, but clearly, there have been some delays. Fingers crossed for a release date soon.

Nothing says “I’m a recent college grad with $30 and a dream” like going to your local Dave & Buster’s to hash it out over an intense game of The Walking Dead-themed skeeball. But how would you like to add stress and poor financial decisions to your Dave & Buster’s trip? You’re in luck!

Dave & Buster’s, the arcade bar often found in your local deteriorating mall, announced that customers will be able to make a “friendly $5 wager” with a new betting function coming soon to the official app. This means you can essentially start betting on various games at the family-friendly bar.

The system will use Lucra, a platform that encourages betting against your friends. “We’re thrilled to work with Lucra to bring this exciting new gaming platform to our customers,” said Simon Murray, senior vice president of entertainment and attractions at Dave & Buster’s. “This new partnership gives our loyalty members real-time, unrivaled gaming experiences, and reinforces our commitment to continuing to elevate our customer experience through innovative, cutting-edge technology.” Lucra should not be confused with the word “lucrative.”

Obviously, this is a weird move for a place like Dave & Buster’s, so people had opinions:

After becoming legal in more and more states, sports betting has been a popular way for adults to spend and lose money. Americans wagered over $119.84 billion on sports betting in 2023, a number that is expected to rise in 2024, especially now that you can wager on a game of Deal Or No Deal against your girlfriend. Good luck out there!
