Disclaimer: While all of the products recommended here were chosen independently by our editorial staff, Uproxx may receive payment to direct readers to certain retail vendors who are offering these products for purchase.

Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet! Nike is back with a vengeance this week. After a seriously poor start to the year, the Swoosh brand is finally delivering the goods with four drops out of six this week. The sneaker world is still quieter than we’d like it to be but it’s hard to complain when we’re getting such high-quality releases.

This week we’re shouting out new releases between Bricks & Wood (a brand we think you should already be following) and New Balance, the latest from Adidas, and some Jordans that’ll finally satiate the appetite of Jordans heads who are probably feeling under-fed after that dry January. Once you scan the kicks be sure to hit up our monthly fashion roundup series, Style Watch, to gear up for the remainder of winter before the warmer season hits us.

Let’s dive in!

Bricks & Wood x New Balance 9060 Angora Rain Cloud

SNX
New Balance

The LA-based streetwear brand Bricks & Wood has been on our radar for a while so we’re happy to see the brand get its second New Balance collaboration. Happy because it means the brand is doing well, but even happier because it’s a truly dope sneaker to file in 2023 (and you best believe we’re already making note of what is going to make our best sneakers of the year list).

Featuring a reflective grey spacer mesh upper overlaid with premium hairy suede panels, this 9060 sports fuzzy laces, an ABZORB midsole and a colorway that combines soft beige tones with green and baby blue accents.

The Bricks & Wood x New Balance 9060 Angora Rain is out now for a retail price of $180. Pick up a pair at New Balance or your favorite aftermarket website.

Adidas NMD_S1 Made to Be Remade

SNX Week of Feb 2
Adidas

The Adidas Made to Be Remade series is a truly interesting concept. The idea is simple — when your shoes are worn out to the point that you’d want to replace them, simply send it back to Adidas and they’ll remake it. It’s one of the only sustainable sneakers that truly aims to be sustainable.

This week the NMD_S1 gets the ‘Made to be Remade’ treatment with this double black and white colorway. Featuring an all-synthetic upper, lining, and outsole, the NMD_1 features a transparent black midsole and a stealthy aesthetic.

Nike Air Jordan 2 Lucky Green

SNX
Nike

After a year that saw the resurgence of the Jordan 2 thanks to several colorful iterations and high-profile collaborations of the underappreciated silhouette, Nike is stripping things back to basics with this week’s Lucky Green rendition.

Featuring a leather upper with faux lizard skin paneling (the OG design), this minimal take on this ’86 sneaker adds some green accents to the heel and tongue, offering a simple but sleek change-up for Jordan 2 purists.

The Air Jordan 2 Lucky Green is set to drop on February 3rd at 7:00 AM for a retail price of $175. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT.

Nike Air Jordan 5 Aqua

SNX
Nike

Occasionally Nike will release a legendary Air Jordan colorway on a sneaker in the lineage that isn’t known for that combination of colors. This week, it’s the Air Jordan 5 which is getting a dope Aqua rendition. The Aqua is a coveted Air Jordan 8 colorway that was first released in 1993 and now its mix of black, aqua trim, metallic silver, and taxi yellow details are hitting the 5 which is arguably a better shoe.

Actually, is it arguable? I don’t think so, the 5 is hands down better than the 8.

The Air Jordan 5 Aqua is set to drop on February 4th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $200. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

UNION x Nike AJKO White/ Sail

SNX
Nike

UNION and Nike are always dropping fire and with the brand’s first link-up of the year, they continue that trend. It’s impossible not to fall in love with these two low-top canvas Jordan 1s, and I say that knowing full well that they are, you know, low-top canvas Jordan 1s. The words ‘low-top’ and ‘canvas’ or two words you never want to hear when we’re talking about Jordans, and yet UNION makes it work.

Featuring a canvas base in your choice of White or Sail, Union outfits this design with some subtle suede and leather detailing. Both sneakers are dope, but if we had to choose we’re going with the Sail Muslin, its mix of off-whites and blue elevate the design to another level.

The Union LA x Nike AJKO White and Sail are set to drop on February 4th at 7:00 AM for a retail price of $150. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Don’t Get Your Hopes Up For A ‘Stranger Things’ Spinoff Starring Millie Bobby Brown

Stranger Things is Netflix‘s biggest English language series. Bigger than Wednesday, bigger than Bridgerton, bigger than Warrior Nun (RIP). Next season will be its final season, and because no successful TV show can’t be stretched into multiple TV shows, there’s already been discussion of spinoffs.

Don’t believe everything you read however.

Giant Freakin Robot reported an “exclusive” this week that “Millie Bobby Brown has signed on for a Stranger Things spin-off series focused on her character Eleven.” The giant freakin report continues, “While little is known of what will happen at the climax of the series, a spin-off of Millie Bobby Brown’s character implies that she will survive whatever psychic battle she inevitably becomes locked in; given that her backstory has been pretty exhaustively explored in the series, a sequel seems to be in order.”

The lies, like Spinal Tap’s amps, go up to 11.

“Not true,” the Stranger Things writers’ room account responded to the report. GFR’s original tweet now comes with a warning: “Readers added context they thought people might want to know… The Stranger Things writers have denied this information.”

You can tell it’s fake because the spin-off doesn’t involve Murray trying to steal the Declaration of Independence.

The Old Pal Is The Only Whiskey Cocktail You Need Right Now

The Old Pal is always there for you and has been for over 100 years. The drink is a classic that dates way back to cocktail cultures of the early 20th century. The Negroni variation balances rye whiskey, dry vermouth, and Campari with a kiss of lemon oil to tie it all together. It’s bitter, spicy, brash, and delicious.

The beauty of the Old Pal is that it’s very easy to make at home. You just need some stirring practice and you’re set. The other great aspect of this drink is that you can get all of these ingredients very easily. In fact, if you like whiskey, martinis, and Negronis, you probably already have everything you need.

The drink is bold though. There’s a nice sharpness to it thanks to the rye whiskey that really amps up with the botanical barks and floral aspects of the Campari. Then the dry vermouth comes in and, well, dries the drink out — adding a layer of bite to the whole thing that’s smoothed out by the bright burst of lemon oils.

Does that sound good? Hell yeah, it does. Let’s dive in!

Old Pal

Zach Johnston

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. rye whiskey
  • 1 oz. dry vermouth
  • 1 oz. Campari
  • Lemon peel
  • Ice

I’m using a good rye whiskey with a toasted barrel finish. It’s only available in Kentucky, so I’d recommend something like a Michter’s Single Barrel Rye that’s available nationwide if you can’t find a bottle of Blackwoods Toasted Rye.

The rest is easily gettable at any liquor store.

What You’ll Need:

  • Cocktail, Nick and Nora, or coupe glass (prechilled)
  • Cocktail mixing jug/glass
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Fruit peeler
  • Jigger
  • Barspoon

Method:

  • Store the glass in your freezer ahead of time.
  • Add the whiskey, vermouth, and Campari to the mixing glass. Add a large handful of ice and stir until the mixing glass is ice-cold to touch.
  • Fetch the glass from the freezer and strain the cocktail into it.
  • Express the lemon oils from the lemon peel over the glass, rub the peel around the rim, bowl, and stem, and then discard the peel. Serve.

Bottom Line:

Old Pal Cocktail
Zach Johnston

This is a great palate revitalization cocktail. It wakes up your sense with a brazen sense of dry spice barks and florals that lean into fruity bitterness. Think bitter orange peels and chinotto. That’s all countered by a sweet and almost buttery whiskey base that’s spiked with sharp spices that lean into dried red chili peppers.

Overall, this is just a good cocktail that feels good going down. It’ll wake up your senses and give you a little kick in the ass. Plus, once you have everything ready, it only takes about 20 seconds to make. That’s a win-win, folks.

Amazon Is Betting Big On Matt Damon And Ben Affleck’s Dramatic Nike Movie With A Major Theatrical Release

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the two best Boston buds that aren’t named Edward Norton and Mark Wahlberg, are experimenting with their latest release, Air.

Based on the humble beginning of the Nike company, Air will focus on the real-life shoe tycoon Sonny Vaccaro, played by Damon, who signed Michael Jordan with his first sneaker deal. The all-star cast also includes Affleck as Nike co-founder Phil Knight and Jason Bateman as Nike exec Rob Strasser, in addition to Chris Messina, Matthew Maher, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, Viola Davis, Gustaf Skarsgård, and Julius Tennon.

According to Variety, Amazon will be releasing the film Glass Onion-style by showing it in 3k theaters domestically on April 5th, before launching on Prime Video shortly after. To promote the film, Amazon shelled out a modest $7 million on an ad expected to run during the Super Bowl. Why they chose the Super Bowl instead of NBA All-Star Weekend is unknown, but they probably share a similar audience.

This is the latest big-budget movie to experiment with a theatrical and streaming release, though it’s new for Amazon, which has been having to compete with Netflix. According to a source familiar with Air, the rollout is risky, but also a sign of what’s to come. “It’s going to put a lot of pressure on Netflix and Apple to follow suit on their big films and how they release them.” You hear that? We just might get a big-screen release of Murder Mystery 2.

Sean Hannity Got Zinged By ‘The Daily Show’ Guest Host D.L. Hughley For His ‘Freudian Slip’ About Police Brutality

While discussing police brutality following the murder of Tyre Nichols, Fox News’ Sean Hannity made a telling slip-up that did not go unnoticed by The Daily Show guest host D.L. Hughley. For his last episode, Hughley went to town on Hannity for predictably carrying water for cops whenever law enforcement is facing justified scrutiny. The comedian also took exceptional joy in catching Hannity’s inadvertent choice of words.

“You have got to hear the latest thing they’re talking about when it comes to police shooting Black people,” Hughley said before teeing up the Hannity clip. Via The Daily Beast:

“There is no systemic racism in policing,” Hannity argued. “It doesn’t exist.”

Hannity proceeded to say that “good cops” make up the “vast, overwhelming majority” of police officers before adding, “And there is a small majority of bad cops.”

“He said it!” Hughley replied. “‘Small majority of bad cops.’ Now that is a Freudian slip for your ass!”

Hughley also took Hannity to task for claiming that the police can’t be racist because white people get shot and killed by the cops, too. The comedian wasn’t buying the argument because “there are way more of them.”

“That’s like more white people die in NASCAR races than Black people, of course!” Hughley said before actually agreeing with Hannity. “But Sean is right, the police do need to stop killing white people too. Welcome to the struggle, my brother!”

Emily Ratajkowski Might Not Be Watching The Super Bowl, From The Looks Of A Mysterious Tweet

Emily Ratajkowski has a lot going on these days. Not only does she remain a sought-after supermodel with various endorsement deals, but she’s also doing her own podcast, High Low with EmRata. There, she revealed that her personal life is more awkward than she’d like, given the paparazzi informing everyone when they see her on a date. This complicates matters while she casually dates for obvious reasons, and it might be why she looked almost pained while dating Pete Davidson after explaining why she understood the attraction to him.

Still, Emily has time to weigh in on subjects that some might consider to be random, like in January when she cryptically tweeted (without context), “Sorry but…fuck the NFL”

Emily provided no explanation for her tweet, and someone who doesn’t know too terribly much about sports [raises hand] could assume that she simply hates football. That’s likely not the case because Emily has previously been in attendance at the Super Bowl, as with this 2017 photo from Instagram. She also once revealed that a disgraced financier paid her $25,000 to attend the Big Game, so she’s probably not much of a fan and simply attends because it’s the place to be.

One can probably guess — from the timing of Emily’s tweet — that this tweet has something to do with Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s mid-game cardiac arrest, an event that has brought scrutiny upon the NFL for how they must handle the collective trauma experienced by players and the audience alike.

Whatever the NFL has done or not done about that fallout, it seems as though Emily Ratajkowski doesn’t approve. Or…. maybe she simply wanted to express the desire to not attend the Super Bowl this year. We’ll find out on February 12.

Matthew McConaughey Is Blaming A Fortune Teller For His Rom-Com King Status

Matthew McConaughey is a man of many acting talents. He can lead space epics and dramas, but he can also voice a singing koala every once in a while. McConaughey’s most celebrated role might be his award-winning performance in True Detective, but true fans know that the Texas native is the original 2000s shirtless golden boy of romcoms.

Obviously, it takes work to be cast in various movies like The Wedding Planner and your mom’s favorite comedy, Failure To Launch, but McConaughey isn’t taking all of the credit. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the actor said that it was a chance encounter with a fortune teller that inspired him to achieve his romcom king status that so many others dream about.

When McConaughey was being considered for the lead opposite Kate Hudson in 2003’s How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, he was on the fence until he was convinced by a psychic to do it. As he recalled, a man come up to him on the street and offered to give him a reading. “I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Boulevard,” the actor recalled. “Suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me — he was a fortune teller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?” Not the thing that you want to hear from a stranger in Hollywood, but McConaughey humored him.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, man. Sure.’ He immediately goes, ‘There’s a movie you’re considering right now. It’s a romantic comedy. You have to do this or it will be one of the biggest regrets of your life. It is going to be a blast, it is going to be an incredible experience and it is going to make a bunch of money,” the actor was told. He laughed it off but accepted the part the next day, and the rest was history. Until he starred in Fool’s Gold, of course.

Lately, McConaughey has been shifting his focus from movies to gun reform after the Uvalde shooting in his hometown. He spent most of last year advocating for families and victims of gun violence and seems to be taking a hiatus from his acting duties.

Kyrie Irving Has Reportedly Requested A Trade From The Nets

Kyrie Irving’s time with the Brooklyn Nets may be coming to an end. According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Irving, who is in the midst of the final year of his contract before hitting unrestricted free agency this summer, has gone to the team’s front office and request a move ahead of next week’s trade deadline.

The report was confirmed by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, who did not confirm whether or not Irving explicitly told the team that he will walk away if he becomes a free agent in the summer. Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, meanwhile, tweeted that the two sides could not come to terms on an extension.

Irving is not the first Nets star to request a trade in recent months, as Kevin Durant told the front office he wanted a move over the summer. Brooklyn held firm, though, and did not send Durant elsewhere, which led to Durant withdrawing his request and having one of his best seasons as a professional during the 2022-23 campaign prior to an MCL injury that he suffered a few weeks back.

But despite Brooklyn sitting at 31-20, good for fourth place in the Eastern Conference, Irving would like to pursue greener pastures. His year has been mired in controversy, as he was suspended by the team over a saga where he refused to denounce antisemitism after sharing an antisemitic film to his Twitter account. Before the season began, there was speculation that Durant’s desire to leave Brooklyn could lead to the team opting to part ways with Irving, too, as the Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly in the market to acquire his services. It is unclear of L.A. would still like to bring him on board.

‘That ’90s Show’ Has Been Renewed For A Supersized Second Season At Netflix

Netflix definitely knows when it has a hit on its hands. Just two weeks after it premiere, That ’90s Show has already been renewed for a second season. Not only that, but the That ’70s Show follow-up will be touting way more episodes when it returns. While Season 1 arrived with 10 episodes, Season 2 will reportedly have 16 episodes, which is almost double the amount.

“All of us at That ’90s Show were beyond excited by the warm, enthusiastic response to our first season,” series co-creator and showrunner Gregg Mettler said in a statement to TVLine. “We can’t wait to return to Point Place for another summer of laughs and surprises. Hello 1996!”

The comedy series brings back Deborah Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith as Kitty and Red Forman, and it’s like the two never even left. Kitty is as bubbly and welcoming as ever, and Red is the exact opposite of that. This time around, they’re no longer wrangling their son Eric (Topher Grace) and his gang of stoner friends. Instead, they’re looking after Eric’s daughter Leia (Callie Haverda) who brings a whole new generation of weirdo teens into the Forman’s basement for one wild summer.

With the notable exception of Danny Masterson, That ’90s Show also brought back the original actors like Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis for well-received cameos. Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderrama were also along for the ride.

That ’90s Show Season 1 is available for streaming on Netflix.
