Lizzy Caplan Is Set To Star In A ‘Fatal Attraction’ Series For Paramount Plus

If you’ve been in the mood for something tantalizing, terrifying, and 100% binge-worthy, it sounds like Paramount+ has just the thing for you. According to The AV Club, the streaming service has officially ordered a series adaptation of the 1987 cult-classic film Fatal Attraction. While just who will be playing the series’ Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas‘ character in the original film) has yet to be announced, none other than Castle Rock‘s Lizzy Caplan will be starring as Alex Forrest (formerly portrayed by Glenn Close) in “a deep-dive reimagining of the classic psychosexual thriller and ‘80s cultural touchstone.”

Both the Fatal Attraction film and upcoming series are based on the short film Diversion by James Dearden. While the short film was met with success upon release, it pales in comparison to how well-received the feature film was when it was released in theaters back in 1987 and subsequently earned Glenn Close her first-ever Oscar nomination.

However, despite all of its praise, there certainly are a few aspects of the Fatal Attraction film that didn’t age so well, namely its portrayal of borderline personality disorder in Close’s character Alex Forrest. According to AV Club, while the series will still explore “the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity,” it will now do so through the lens of “modern attitudes towards strong women, personality disorders, and coercive control.”

A large part of what contributes to this shift in perspective, according to Paramount, is who is at the helm of the project. Alexandra Cunningham (Dirty John, Chance) is set to serve as Fatal Attraction‘s writer, showrunner, and executive producer, alongside executive producer and co-writer Kevin J. Hynes (Perry Mason). Paramount+ original scripted series president Nicole Clemens said Cunningham was ultimately chosen for the project because she “brings an incredibly strong and nuanced point of view to a story that became a cultural phenomenon, but has thus far only been told from the male gaze.”

“Partnered with Kevin,” Clemens added. “They will bring the next explosive chapter of this story to a new generation, with a balanced eye to the complexities of the human psyche.”

Aaron Sorkin Is Out Here Just Teasing A Sequel To ‘The Social Network’ Now

In a lengthy interview to promote his upcoming Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz biopic for Amazon, Being the Ricardos, and address the elephant in the room about his controversial decision to cast Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem in the lead roles, writer/director Aaron Sorkin appears to be teasing a sequel to The Social Network.

Sorkin famously wrote the David Fincher-directed film starring Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and Sorkin has made some rumblings in the past about making a follow-up. But with everything that’s been happening with the social media platform lately, the renowned playwright is even more interested than ever in getting a sequel off of the ground. Via The Hollywood Reporter:

Do you still want to make that movie?

Well, I don’t want to make news here. I think what has been going on with Facebook these last few years is a story very much worth telling, and there is a way to tell it as a follow up to The Social Network, and that’s as much as I know.

Sorkin is obviously referencing Facebook‘s effect on the 2016 election and its warping of America’s political discourse through its inability (if not outright unwillingness) to address the misinformation on its platform. Just in the past two months, leaked documents and whistleblower reports have exposed a rampant problem inside the company, and the situation got so bad, that Zuckerberg actually rebranded Facebook as Meta in an attempt to shift the conversation. It hasn’t worked. Nor, apparently, did Sorkin’s attempt to not make news. Whoops!

The Rams Have Signed Odell Beckham Jr. After Some Chaotic Confusion (UPDATE)

Just over a week ago, Odell Beckham Jr. was on the Browns and not particularly happy about it, with the tension in the building peaking when his father shared a video of all the times his son was open and Baker Mayfield missed him. After that, Beckham Jr. was excused from practice and, ultimately, waived by the Browns — although not officially until Monday of this week.

There were a number of reports about where OBJ would end up, with teams like the Packers, Patriots, Saints, Seahawks and others all rumored to have interest in the former All-Pro receiver. Unsurprisingly, Beckham cleared waivers on Tuesday, with no one willing to pick up the $7.5 million of his remaining salary, and he hit free agency. Two days went by without a decision, but on Thursday a deal was reportedly struck between Beckham and the team that can’t stop adding veteran stars, the Los Angeles Rams.

After releasing DeSean Jackson recently, there’s a spot in the receiving corps for Beckham to slot into, and there wouldn’t be a ton of pressure on him to be the guy given the presence of Cooper Kupp as the clear leading man on the outside. It was also a bit funny that the Rams appeared to end up with him because they have, effectively, gone all in on veteran star power in recent years and Les Snead seems to be treating the L.A. roster the way you would when building a team in Madden.

However, shortly after Schefter’s report, Beckham Jr. pumped the braked on a deal being done, saying he was still “on the fence” about going to Green Bay or Los Angeles.

This, apparently, was news to the Rams who seemed to think the deal was done — and surely that was where Schefter first got the information. They even posted the news to their website (and then had to delete it).

We should find out soon whether the Rams jumping the gun ends up costing them the star receiver, or if he still ends up in L.A., but this saga has only gotten stranger on Thursday afternoon.

UPDATE: Beckham is, indeed, L.A. bound, tipped by him FaceTiming with Von Miller and his friend LeBron James is excitedly welcoming him to Los Angeles.

The deal was officially official shortly after, with the man himself confirming the news after maybe just wanting to have some fun with everyone.

Taylor Swift Re-Created The Photo She Shared Before Releasing The Original ‘Red’ And Fans Are Blown Away

Taylor Swift is a known appreciator of a good Easter egg and clever reference, and today, the day before she releases Red (Taylor’s Version), she has offered her fans another one, which hearkens back to the release of her original Red album.

This afternoon, Swift shared two photos, both of herself facing away from the camera but both from different times in her life, and wrote, “This is my last day of life before #RedTaylorsVersion. Midnight. Tonight.” Fans were quick to pick up on the fact that this was a reference to Swift’s tweet from the day before she released Red, when she shared the older of the two photos and tweeted, “This is my last day of life before #RED. Midnight. Tonight.”

Fans were over the moon about this one, as after the post, trending topics on Twitter included “#RedTaylorsVersion” and “SHE DID IT,” the latter of which is in reference to Swift’s nostalgic post.

In late 2020, back when it was rumored that Swift was releasing an album called Woodvale, she told Jimmy Kimmel about her and her fans’ shared love for Easter eggs, saying, “I tend to be sort of annoyingly secret agent-y about dropping clues and hints and Easter eggs. It’s very annoying but it’s fun for fans and it’s fun for me because they like to pick up on things.”

Red (Taylor’s Version) is out 11/12 via Republic. Pre-order it here.

Wesley Snipes Shows His Support For The New Blade, Mahershala Ali, Who’s ‘Excited To Get Going’

You know what’s a good movie? Blade. You know what’s an even better movie? Blade II. If you haven’t watched Blade II in a while, you should change that. It rules, which is why it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Wesley Snipes as the human-vampire hybrid… or so I thought until Mahershala Ali was announced as the new Blade for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Oscar winner is a great choice and even has Snipes’ support.

In response to a Twitter user who wrote, “Best of luck to Mahershala Ali who’s gonna smash it I’m sure as blade but he’s gonna have a hard time outdoing Wesley Snipes,” Snipes wrote, “He will do great,” along with the prayer hands emoji.

Ali (who made his MCU debut in SPOILER) also spoke to Empire about his excitement for getting to play Blade. “That Marvel world is obviously the biggest in film, and just to get my little introduction to that – starting with the Comic Con a couple years ago, and now the very early stages of stepping into the shoes of that character – it felt special and really cool,” he said. “I’m excited to get going and do more.”

Blade does not currently have a release date, but filming is expected to begin in July 2022. Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) will direct, while Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen, Pen15) is writing the script.

A New Jersey Gym Owner Just Received The Longest Sentence Yet For The January 6th Capitol Riot

Move over, QAnon Shaman and Jenna Ryan, there’s a new Capitol rioter making headlines for wishing a little too late that he never listened to Donald Trump. New Jersey gym owner Scott Kevin Fairlamb has officially been handed the longest prison sentence yet, three and a half years, for his participation in the MAGA riot that attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 election by stopping Congress from certifying votes through force and/or hanging Mike Pence.

Fairlamb was one of the first batch of rioters picked up by federal authorities thanks to a bunch of social media activity that made him very easy to find and prosecute. Via Gothamist:

According to the Department of Justice, “After arriving on Capitol grounds, Fairlamb climbed the scaffolding on the West Terrace, where he recorded and posted a video to Instagram in which he stated, ‘We ain’t f****** leaving either! We ain’t f****** leaving!’”

A tipster reported to the FBI that Fairlamb said in a video posted to (and later deleted from) Facebook, while carrying a police baton, “What Patriots do? We f****** disarm them and then we storm the f****** Capitol,” before entering the building.

During the sentencing hearing, Fairlamb denounced his QAnon ways, which has become a recurring theme amongst rioters like the Shaman and Ryan, who both had a change of heart when faced with the consequences of their actions.

“That is not Scott Fairlamb. That’s not who I am. That’s not who I was raised to be. I truly regret my actions that day. I have nothing but remorse,” he told the judge, according to the Washington Post.

People can’t get enough of this duck running in the NYC marathon—shoes and all

Well, here’s something you don’t see every day. Or, um, ever.

The New York City Marathon took place this past Sunday, as 33,000 runners of all shapes and sizes ran the 26.2 miles from Staten Island to Central Park. Among them was a runner no one would have expected—an energetic white duck named Wrinkle.

Wrinkle’s owner shared her triumphant running videos on TikTok and YouTube, which highlight Wrinkle’s daily doings, and people have been sharing them with great joy on social media. Who can blame them? Ducks are adorable. Ducks in shoes are super adorable. And a duck in shoes running in a marathon is too adorable to handle.

I mean, watch this and try not to smile.

Wrinkle’s owner wrote on the video share on YouTube:

Wrinkle the duck is more than just a beautiful pekin duck,

she is a full grown adult human child

She is fast

She is speed

She is zoom

She is wrinkle

Still fast as duck boiiii

The video of Wrinkle running in the marathon has garnered more than 4 million views on TikTok and thousands of comments.

One commenter wrote, “I know this may seem silly, but I’ve been so deeply depressed lately and seeing this little lady running has actually made me smile.”

Wrinkle responded: “As an official emotional support duck hearing this makes me feel like I’m doing my job well. Wrinkle loves you.”

Some famous brands got in on the comments as well.

Duolingo—the language app with an owl for an icon—wrote, “That’s my cousin!”

Adidas wrote, “Sending this to our design team to petition for a new duck shoe collection.”

The New York Rangers hockey team wrote, “She’s a runner, she’s a track star” (a reference to the song “Track Star”—of course, several commenters chimed in to correct it to “quack star”).

Peloton wrote, “You’re hired your first class will be a 20 min Hip Hop Waddle.”

The Anaheim Ducks hockey team: “Legendary duck.”

(Aflac, surprisingly, missed the opportunity.)

Undoubtedly, Wrinkle did not run the entire 26.2 miles, but however much she ran was totally worth it. If you’re wondering how Wrinkle trained for her five minutes of fame, check this out (with the sound up, please):
