Smino Spit Fire During An Ice Storm In His ‘Wyoming (Freestyle)’

Last month, the Portland Trail Blazers were stranded on a plane for seven hours because a snowstorm prevented them from traveling to Sacramento for their game against the Kings. Blazers All-Star point guard Damian Lillard made the most of the undoubtedly annoying delay by freestyle rapping over GloRilla and Cardi B’s “Tomorrow 2” beat.

Smino recently found himself in the same situation.

Last Friday, March 10, the Luv 4 Rent artist posted his “Wyoming (Freestyle)” along with a video. The YouTube description explains, “My bus got caught inna ice storm near Wyoming so we said f*ck it and made this.”

Smino’s bars are equal parts clever (“Back when wins ain’t come with so many bruises / Back when trends wasn’t topics, we just doin’ sh*t / Knew I was on sh*t / I could rhyme it down to the oranges”) and literal (“Look up, it’s snowing in Wyoming”).

The nearly three-minute video sees Smino smoking in his stranded bus, vibing on the sidewalk, and recording in his hotel room.

Smino is currently on the Luv Is 4Ever Tour with JID. Uproxx reviewed their back-to-back nights at the Hollywood Palladium and applauded their oozing star power — “They both exude charm and charisma and polished, carefully practiced skill” — which can be felt from Smino even within the confines of an impromptu, unassuming moment like “Wyoming (Freestyle).”

The Luv Is 4Ever Tour is in Toronto tonight (March 15) before hitting Detroit on Friday, March 17, weaving through Chicago on March 21, and wrapping up in Nashville on March 29.

Feist Explores Chaos In The Trippy Single And Video ‘Borrow Trouble’

Last month, Feist announced the album Multitudes, following a string of intimate 2021 performances under the same name. Following the 2017 album Pleasure, Multitudes has four singles out: “Hiding Out In The Open,” “Love Who We Are Meant To,” “In Lightning,” and now, the newest one, “Borrow Trouble.”

“‘Borrow Trouble’ caused some trouble in trying to finish the recording,” Leslie Feist shared in a statement. “It began as a contemplative acoustic morality tale and shape-shifted itself into the sound of trouble itself. It’s a mess that holds its own logic. It’s the convincing cacophony that thoughts can be. It saws away at you until your overwhelm pops an air supply in the form of another idea, a solution that starts with accepting there’s no such thing as perfection.”

She continued: “Mike Mills (the filmmaker) directed me deeper into the tangle, insisted I play drums ‘because you’re not a drummer!,’ and Amir Yaghmai brought the fist pumping drone of violins. Early on, when I was writing it Charles Spearin said, ‘Yah but what does borrowing trouble mean?’ And I said, ‘It’s an expression from the old days.’ May as well let the song explain, like I’m doing now.”

Fenne Lily’s Meditative New Single ‘In My Own Time’ Comes With A Tumultuous Video

Next month, Dead Oceans artist Fenne Lily will release her album Big Picture, which she describes as “my attempt at bringing some kind of order to the disaster that was 2020.” “Lights Light Up” was a bewitching lead single, followed by the release of “Dawncolored House.” Now, she’s back with the unveiling of the meditative track “In My Own Time.”

“This song’s about the weight of stasis — about time moving too quickly and too slowly and every mistake feeling both permanent and inconsequential,” she said in a statement. “When it came to writing this video concept, I wanted it to reflect the twisted aspects of a love that’s found in the midst of chaos, and the subsequent feeling of being inanimate in your own story. All that, in the style of Terminator 2.”

Her vocals are intimate against breezy acoustic guitars, and her lyricism is as relatable and sharp: “Sometimes I feel like I’m just killing time here / Or maybe it’s killing me,” she sings. It leads up to endearing ending lines that stick with you: “Write me a love song make it all rhyme / Hold me up sometimes we’ll be just fine.”

Big Picture arrives 4/14 via Dead Oceans. Find more information here.

Logic And Joey Badass Enjoyed An Animated Day In The Studio For Their ‘Shimmy’ Video

Logic was the subject of debate last week after sharing his cover of Ice Cube’s “It Was A Good Day.” A lot of people tore it to shreds, but one TikTok user wanted “a whole album of covers like this” from Logic.

The multiplatinum rapper and best-selling author responded, “It’s funny that you should say that because I thought about doing that. Wouldn’t that be cool? Everybody’s all pissed off at me because I did a f*cking Ice Cube cover. Meanwhile, I texted Ice Cube, and he’s like, ‘Man, keep doing you, brother!’ Who gives a f*ck?! But you know what would be great? You’re right. I should do a whole f*cking album.”

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. It hasn’t even been a month since Logic dropped his latest album (and debut album as an independent artist), College Park,

Yesterday, March 14, he dropped the video for College Park track “Shimmy” featuring Joey Badass, and it’s further confirmation that Logic does not care about any negative feedback. (Although, he previously shared important and poignant perspective on cyberbullying.)

In the JT Clemente-directed video, Logic and Joey are seemingly having the time of their lives in the studio — accented by animation from Tristan Zammit.

“F*ck how you feel, I’m breakin’ the seal,” Logic spits. “Just got out my deal, I’m keepin’ it real.” The hook doubles down on his joyous, wealthy position: “Shimmy, shimmy, yeah, b*tch, I get money like ODB / Shimmy, shimmy, yeah, I’m finally eatin’ good, no EBT.” Joey also flexes by calling himself “Himothy” and reflecting on his hard-fought climb “from EBT to BET.”

Earlier this month, Logic announced his College Park Tour with Juicy J. See those dates below, and watch the “Shimmy” video above.

Andre Iguodala Will Have Surgery After Fracturing His Wrist Against The Suns

The Golden State Warriors picked up a pair of very important wins over the weekend, beating the Bucks and Suns at home, as they continue to have the highest variance between home and away record of any team in the NBA.

Those wins pulled the Warriors even with the Clippers for fifth in the West, and on Wednesday they will travel to L.A. to face those very Clippers in what could be a very important game for seeding. Unfortunately for Golden State, they’ll play that game without veteran forward Andre Iguodala, who they announced would be out indefinitely after he has surgery to repair a fractured wrist.

The injury occurred in the blowout of the Suns, where Iguodala played 16 minutes and scored six points, as he’s had to become a rotation piece again, averaging 14 minutes per game over the past five games in Andrew Wiggins’ continued absence. The highlight of the night for Iguodala was a reverse dunk (whether this was the culprit for his injury or not is unknown), but that may end up being the last one we see from the former Finals MVP.

While he wasn’t initially expected to be a particularly important on-court piece this season, the Warriors will now be extremely thin on the wing without Wiggins or Iguodala, who figures to be out for an extended period after surgery.

Jamie Lee Curtis Made Sure To Place Her Oscar Next To Her ‘Everything Everywhere’ Butt Plug Award

Jamie Lee Curtis has an Oscar now, and that’s great for the longtime scream queen and always welcome screen presence. Hers was one of seven trophies earned for Everything Everywhere All at Once, which went from sleeper hit to becoming a semi-unlikely awards season behemoth. Where to put it, though? Well, she found a perfect place.

As caught by Entertainment Weekly, three days after winning her Oscar, the actress shared an image on Instagram of her latest win sitting beside two other recent gets. One was her Screen Actors Guild award. The other was an Everything Everywhere prop she got to take home, namely the butt plug-shaped trophy her character got for being “Auditor of the Year.”

The award had a brief but fun role in the film. During one of the fights with Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn Wang, one minion winds up inadvertently launching himself upon the unfortunately shaped trinket.

Curtis is really enjoying her fancy new trophy. She recently told Today that, in support of her trans daughter, she’s refusing to give her Oscar a gender.

“I’m having them be a they/them. I’m going to just call them them,” Curtis said. “They/them, and they are doing great, they’re settling in, and I just, in my life, I never saw it in a million years that I’d have this couple days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing.”

So congrats on the trio of trophies. Few others can say they scored two acting awards plus a butt plug.

PinkPantheress’ ‘Boys A Liar’ Predicted A Future Liar In Her Life That She Later Tried To Put A ‘Hex’ On

Don’t cross PinkPantheress. Obviously, the pop powerhouse can easily write a hit about you, but she’s also got other forms of revenge up her sleeve. In an interview with Power 106, she shared a story about getting back at the person who inspired her famous tracks “Boy’s A Liar” and “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2.”

When asked if she was thankful that the boy was a liar, PinkPantheress laughed. “Actually, funny enough, I didn’t write that song about a boy actually being a liar, but the boy ended up being a liar after the song came out,” she said.

“Foreshadowing,” the interviewer said, “or manifestation.”

“I think it was the manifestation,” she said. “But I am thankful that he did lie, kind of. Although it did annoy me so much that I threatened to hex him. And I tried. But I don’t know if it worked. But my point is, yeah, I guess, in a way, I am happy. Every experience just makes you better.”

“I think if I lied to a girl, and then she wrote a song about it, and it became the No. 1 song, that’s a hex in itself,” the interviewer countered.

PinkPantheress agreed: “That is the hex, isn’t it?”

Watch the exchange below.

Lindsey Graham Said Trump Was So Out Of His Mind After Losing Re-Election That If Someone Told Him Aliens Stole Ballots, He’d Have Believed It

Donald Trump ain’t doing so hot right now, but even though he’s right now on the cusp of a potential indictment (plus a new look into possible money laundering), he has to be doing better than he was in late 2020 and early 2021. Losing re-election snapped something in his already weird brain. You might recall he even inspired supporters to try and overturn democracy. He was also believing some deeply strange things about alleged voter fraud. But according to one of his closest pals, it could have been even worse.

As per the Atlanta Journal Constitution (as caught by The Daily Beast), Lindsey Graham spoke to a grand jury last year investigating Trump and team’s attempts to flip the vote in Georgia. Five members of the 23-person panel spoke with the local paper, telling them about some of the more shocking things they learned. One tidbit came from the state’s senator, who delved into how frazzled Trump’s brain was after the election leaned towards the winner, Joe Biden.

“He said that during that time, if somebody had told Trump that aliens came down and stole Trump ballots, that Trump would’ve believed it,” the juror revealed.

That shouldn’t come as too much of a shock. Clearly Trump will believe in anything that benefits him. Even the kookiest voter fraud hucksters have stayed away from aliens. But would anyone be surprised if they started using that line, especially given Tucker Carlson is known to float alien conspiracy theories? You could even argue MAGA extra-terrestrials is more likely than some of the tinfoil hat nonsense spouted by the likes of Mike Lindell. Perhaps if he loses the next GOP presidential ticket, Trump will finally crack the seal on an alien invasion.

’Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’: You Know What, All Things Considered, It’s Good Enough

There’s something weird about watching Shazam: Fury of the Gods in terms of stakes. Now, it can be debated is any superhero movies as of late feel like they have actual stakes or not, but this entry is especially interesting because it feels like, quite possibly, watching a lame-duck franchise. With James Gunn taking over DC at Warner Bros., Shazam: Fury of the Gods has the lowest stakes possible: basically just don’t damage an already polarizing cinematic brand. During the course of this movie, we see an appearance from another, more famous, superhero that I won’t give away, even though it doesn’t matter – but knowing that his or her last appearance in that role might come as a Shazam cameo is pretty weird.

Anyway, these current DC movies just kind of feel like the game is over and the other team has taken a knee and is running out the clock. And under those circumstances, I kind of feel bad for these movies. In the end, people worked hard on them. To the point that when I went to my screening, before the movie started, it felt like I was wasting my time. What’s the point of this?

Now that you know what my headspace was the day I saw Shazam: Fury of the Gods, having said all that, yeah I kind of found myself enjoying it. At least, my expectations were low enough that the four or five laughs I had while watching felt like, “good enough.”

(I can’t help but feel for director David Sandberg, who seems like a genuinely nice guy. And since he started directing these two Shazam movies, he’s worked under multiple regimes and edicts at Warner Bros. Think how stressful it is at your job when you get a new boss. He’s had to do that a few times now. He mentioned how he just kind of wants to make a small horror movie next. Yeah, I don’t blame him for feeling that way.)

It’s not as good as the first Shazam movie, which explored what it’s like to be a superhero when, in reality, you’re still just a kid. In this sequel, that aspect is still mentioned quite a bit, but not really explored. There’s a lot of Billy Batson saying that he can’t do something, then figuring out a way to do it pretty quickly. But where the first movie gave us a lot of Asher Angel as the young Billy, this one really does not give us much of him at all. To the point, there’s a scene late in the movie where Zachary Levi’s Shazam turns back into Billy for what felt like just an excuse for poor Angel to have one more line of dialogue. The same could be said for Adam Brody’s unnamed superhero that goes by Captain Marvel Jr. in the comics, but can’t here for legal reasons. (Though he starts referring to himself as Captain Everypower a few times, which doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.)

Obviously, the filmmakers wanted to tap into the chemistry between Zachary Levi’s powered-up Shazam and Jack Dylan Grazer’s unpowered-up Freddy Freeman, so many, many excuses are made so one of them is using the Shazam powers and the other is not. (Two things here. First, Jack Dylan Grazer looks about twice the height compared to what he looked like in the first movie and he’s the best part of this movie. Also, I bet Adam Brody and Asher Angel had a couple of heart-to-hearts about not being in this movie very much.)

The plot is so convoluted it barely matters. Like, honestly. Three immortal sisters (Helen Miran, having a ball; Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler) need a magic staff so they can find something they refer to as a seed and avenge the death of their father, Atlas. Standing in their way is Shazam and his family of superheroes. I guess, writing it out, it’s not that complicated. But, boy, this movie sure makes it feel complicated. By the end, there are goblins and monsters and unicorns and a fire-breathing dragon and it all feels like a lot, but there’s a lightheartedness to the whole proceedings that makes it enjoyable and amusing enough. But, at one point, I thought the goal of the sisters was to take away Shazam and his family’s powers? Which happens on and off the entire movie. But it seems they just do that as a means to “the seed” and don’t care about it much one way or another. But like I was saying earlier, once I stopped caring about following the plot, it was a much better experience.

But knowing that, most likely, these movies will end up folded into “the prior regime,” what’s it matter if Philadelphia gets destroyed? (At one point Philadelphia is trapped inside in an inescapable bubble and I found myself thinking, I don’t know, would that be the worst thing?) What’s it matter if Shazam somehow doesn’t live through this movie? The chances of another Shazam movie ever happening looks iffy at best, so watching this under these conditions, it actually wasn’t the worst thing. It truly felt like something that has no repercussions to any future movie, because it probably certainly won’t.

To the point, at my screening there was no post-credit scene because I was told they weren’t done yet, so I do wonder if there were plans for one to exist that teased an eventual showdown between Shazam and Black Adam, because that seems to be where all this was headed until recently. (Though, director David F. Sandberg says this isn’t the case.)

Anyway, I guess it doesn’t really matter. The whole concept of superhero universes, especially recently, is to create a feeling of importance, even when that really isn’t the case. So it’s weird and strangely refreshing to watch one of these where that’s 100 percent not the case.

’Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ opens on March 17th in theaters everywhere. You can contact Mike Ryan directly on Twitter.
