People can’t get enough of this Italian preschooler’s classically Italian rant

All people have a need to communicate, but the way we do that varies greatly from place to place. Every culture has its own communication peculiarities that make our human family delightfully diverse.

Not only do humans speak thousands of languages around the world, but we also engage in culturally specific speaking styles, speech patterns and body language, some of which are immediately identifiable.

Case in point: the Italian “finger purse.”

Italian people are known for using their hands a lot when speaking. Italian hand gestures can vary a bit between northern and southern Italy, but one of the most universally recognizable is the pinched fingers or “finger purse.” That’s the gesture in which the tips of the fingers and the thumb are pressed together (forming a purse shape) and pointed upward, often in a repeated back-and-forth or up-and-down motion, sometimes with one hand and sometimes with both. Along with the rhythm of punctuated emphasis on certain words, especially when speaking passionately, the finger purse is often used to convey a question with a sense of annoyance, exasperation or confusion.

It’s a gesticulation most of us associate with a classic Italian grandma or grandpa, but when you see it coming from a tiny little Italian person, it’s utterly hilarious. A viral video, originally shared by @guiseppe_matilde on TikTok, shows a preschooler engaging in a passionate rant that is unmistakably Italian, both in the actual language she’s speaking and in her hand gestures.

According to Italian speakers in the comments, the little girl is conveying a story about how someone commented negatively about her wearing a miniskirt. u/shykawaii_shark on Reddit shared:

“Rough translation for English speakers. Not a literal translation, I made it easier to comprehend

Mother: What kind of sense does that make!

Daughter: They told me ‘What sense does going out with a miniskirt make?’ Like, think for yourself! I can wear my miniskirt, and you mind your own business!

Mother: Exactly!

Daughter: Think about your own miniskirt, not mine!”

Got a feisty little feminist here.

The full video on TikTok is even better (but it doesn’t have the Italian subtitles):

As adorable as this video is, it’s also an example of how culture gets passed on from generation to generation. An Australian study found that young humans across different cultures imitate adults in ways that animals don’t. Animals will imitate adult behavior to the extent that it’s efficient and necessary to perform a task, whereas humans will mimic even silly or frivolous behaviors that have no purpose whatsoever.

“Animals focus on getting the job done,” Mark Nielsen, a psychologist at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, told Science. “Humans seem to almost forget about the outcome and copy everything we see.”

That mimicry of unnecessary actions may contribute to the complexity of human cultures. After all, it’s not really necessary to do the finger purse to make a point, but Italians do it anyway. Little Italians pick it up from adult Italians, and so the classic Italian communication style is passed on.

And thank goodness it is, because babies gesturing in Italian is absolutely adorable.

Trump Is So ‘Furious’ Over The Midterm Results That He’s Reportedly Blaming Melania For Telling Him To Back Dr. Oz

As Donald Trump continues to fume over the midterm elections failing to produce a Republican “Red Wave,” he’s reportedly been lashing out at anyone and everyone in sight including his wife Melania. According to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump is blaming the former First Lady for telling him to back Dr. Oz, who lost to John Fetterman in Pennsylvania. It probably didn’t help that Trump’s choice for governor, Doug Mastriano, suffered an even more humiliating loss in the Keystone State.

“Trump is indeed furious this morning,” Haberman tweeted on Wednesday. “Particularly about Mehmet Oz, and is blaming everyone who advised him to back Oz — including his wife, describing it as not her best decision, according to people close to him.”

However, as Haberman notes, Trump has no one to blame but himself. The former president’s endorsement just narrowly pushed Oz ahead in the Pennsylvania primary where he beat a more moderate Republican candidate that may have had a better chance at defeating Fetterman.

“Worth remembering that Trump is a grown man who endorsed Oz over the objection of some of the people closest to him, and instead went beyond just endorsing and attacked Dave McCormick from the stage at a rally,” Haberman added.

There’s also the tricky situation of Trump being personally blamed for suppressing a potential “Red Wave.” There were reports that he was going to announce his 2024 presidential run immediately after the midterm elections, and now, he’s reportedly being told to wait until the dust settles. Whether Trump will listen to reason is, of course, a whole different story.

“There are people pushing Trump to reschedule his announcement next week, and several Rs have texted asking whether he will,” Haberman tweeted. “But it’s risky and would be acknowledging he’s wounded by yesterday, something that some of his advisers insist is not the case.”

Chadwick Boseman’s Illness Reportedly Didn’t Stop Him From Having A Chuckle At Ryan Coogler’s Enormous ‘Wakanda Forever’ Draft Script

Nearly four years after the first installment, the Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever will make its way into theaters this weekend. Noticeably absent from the film is Chadwick Boseman, the titular Black Panther who passed away in 2020 after a secret battle with colon cancer.

Even though Boseman’s Black Panther isn’t appearing in Wakanda Forever, the cast said they could feel his presence while filming and promoting the movie. Letitia Wright, who portrayed Shuri, told Variety that the filming process was therapeutic for the cast, “It’s definitely triggering to keep discussing something that’s very close to you and really emotional,” Wright explained. “But at the same time, we understand the ways in which it could bring healing.”

Wright also noted that Boseman was able to receive a script before they began, and he joked about the 300-plus pages. “I remember just hearing through the grapevine that even though Chadwick was really unwell, he was making fun of how long it was, because the script was about 300 pages,” Wright said with a laugh. For perspective, the Avengers: Endgame script came out to about 150 pages. “That’s Ryan [Coogler]’s process; he puts everything on the page, he sends it off to Chad and they sit and discuss.”

Coogler, the film’s director, ended up getting emotional when discussing giving the script to Boseman in the summer of 2020, just before he passed. “He hadn’t read it…I found out later he was…” the director said before trailing off. “I can write this. It’s harder for me to say it,” Coogler told Variety, scribbling on a notepad that Boseman was too tired to read the script.

Despite tragedy and various production delays, the cast and crew of Wakanda Forever are ready for the world to see the next chapter in the Marvel universe. “In the process of these four years, there’s been a lot of ups and downs,” Coogler said. “A lot of times where you couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. You just had to trust that eventually, you’re going to get out of it.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters this Friday, November 11th.

Rauw Alejandro Reveals The ‘Saturno’ Cover Art And Possibly The Genres He Will Explore On The Album

Rauw Alejandro continues to build anticipation around his upcoming album Saturno. On Tuesday (November 8), the Puerto Rican superstar revealed the cover art and possibly the genres that he will explore on the LP.

Back in July, Alejandro started teasing Saturno with the lead single “Lokera” featuring Lyanno and Brray. Last month, he released album’s second single “Punto 40 Año 2077” with Baby Rasta. In the gratifying-defying music video for that song, he delved heavily into the outer space theme of the LP.

The cover art for Saturno features a futuristic Alejandro staring off into the galaxy. Instead of his name, the cover bears his nickname “Rauleeto.” That will be the alter ego that Alejandro embraces for this next album era.

In the Instagram post dump post, Alejandro might’ve also revealed the genres that he will experiment with on the Saturno. In addition to a photo of Alejandro hanging out in a record shop, there’s pictures of genres reggaeton, Miami bass/freestyle, and Afrobeat. There’s more genre-dividing markers that read: industrial synth, alternative/new wave, dancehall, and electronic.

The new wave influence of Saturno was confirmed with the release of Alejandro’s latest single “Dime Quién???” last month. His Saturno album will be released on Friday, November 11. Alejandro will later perform at the 2022 Latin Grammy Awards on November 17.

Saturno is out 11/11 via Sony Music Latin. Pre-order it here.

Paramore’s Hayley Williams Felt Like A Teacher Breaking Up A Fight At A Concert: ‘Detention For Everyone!’

Paramore played a smaller, intimate concert at Toronto’s History ahead of their upcoming album, This Is Why, and 2023 North American tour. Still, things at the show managed to get a little rowdy. Lead singer Hayley Williams eventually stepped in, trying to break up a fight in the crowd. The chaos took place during the band’s performance of the After Laughter track, “Caught In The Middle,” which is upbeat… and if you have to fight to any Paramore song… why would it be this one?

“Are you good? Is everybody okay?” Williams says after stopping the song. “Okay, we’ve got a fight. Oh, man. What do you guys think this is, like a Terror show?”

“We’re not a hardcore band, bro. Come on,” she continued. “We’re gonna dance tonight, we’re gonna have fun, or we’re not gonna do it. You got me up here acting like a teacher. Detention for everyone! Let me tell you something: I better not have to do that again. First of all, we play to a click track so we’d be on time for you. Don’t make us stop that thing again. It hurts. Are you okay out there now? You good? Thank you for taking care of yourself and each other. Jesus Christ.”

Williams eventually continued the Paramore show, and it appeared nobody was removed from the crowd. Or seriously injured. I suppose that’s all you can hope for. And, if you want more, there’s always tickets for the hardcore band Terror.

MAGA World Is Reportedly Losing It Over The Big ‘Red Wave’ Fail: ‘They Seem A Little Bit Despondent’

As the “red wave” failed to materialize on Tuesday night, MAGA world reportedly started to melt down, according to MSNBC’s Ben Collins who’s been diligently tracking the online movements of QAnon along with the likes of Steve Bannon. While monitoring message boards as the election results began to show Democrats holding ground, and in some cases flipping states, Collins told Rachel Maddow that the mood was “catatonic.”

“I don’t think they had a plan for this, to be honest with you Rachel,” Collins said via Raw Story. “I’ve been watching all of the most wonderful parts there this evening, InfoWars, and the Steve Bannon-style shows that he is populating this evening. They did not have a plan, and that is kind of interfering with their backup plan.”

However, Colllins warned that the MAGA boards are calling every Democrat win a lie, and “shenanigans” are no doubt coming:

“They want to make all of the, you know, what they call shenanigans, stuff happening down there with their viral lies about the voter tabulations this morning. They want to make that into a huge deal. And it might not even matter at the end of the day, depending on where the Democrats end up winning in Pennsylvania, in a battle, in Georgia, they are — I can’t really stress this, it’s a very weird vibe on these sites. They seem a little bit despondent.”

Meanwhile, on Fox News, Marc Thiessen unloaded on the Republican Party for failing to deliver the anticipated “red wave.” He called the night an “absolute disaster” and urged the party to “turn back” and “do a really deep, introspective look in the mirror right now.” It was a thinly veiled shot at Donald Trump who appears to have been a detriment at the polls once again.

Via The Daily Beast:

“We have the worst inflation in four decades, the worst collapse in real wages in 40 years, the worst crime wave since the 1990s, the worst border crisis in U.S. history, we have Joe Biden who is the least popular president since Harry Truman, since presidential polling happened, and there wasn’t a red wave. That is a searing indictment on the Republican Party. That is a searing indictment of the message that we have been sending to the voters. They looked at all of that and looked at the Republican alternative and said, ‘no thanks.’”

Thiessen then hailed Ron DeSantis and Brian Kemp, who both won re-election, as the “path to the future” instead of “radical candidates” who dragged down the GOP.

“Voters have indicted the Republican Party,” the Fox News host concluded.

The Nets Will Make Jacque Vaughn Their Head Coach Instead Of Ime Udoka

The Brooklyn Nets have a new head coach, and in a major surprise, it is not the guy everyone presumed would be Steve Nash’s successor. The team announced on Wednesday after that Jacque Vaughn, who has been filling in as the team’s interim head coach since Nash and the team mutually parted ways, will become the team’s head coach.

“Jacque’s basketball acumen, competitiveness and intimate knowledge of our team and organization make him the clear-cut person to lead our group moving forward,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement. “He has a proven ability to get the best out of our players, hold them accountable and play a cohesive, team-first style of basketball.”

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Vaughn will get a contract through next season as part of the move.

In the immediate aftermath of Nash’s ouster, multiple reports indicated that Brooklyn planned on hiring suspended Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka to fill the same role. Udoka, a former assistant under Nash, is not currently at the helm of the Celtics due to an alleged affair with a female staffer, and it is believed that Boston would let him leave for another job.

But as the days went on and the Nets’ focus became dealing with Kyrie Irving’s repeated refusal to denounce antisemitism, Udoka did not get the job, while Vaughn continued to fill in. And earlier this week, Marc Stein reported that there were “strong voices” advising Brooklyn owner Joe Tsai against hiring Udoka.

Vaughn previously served as the head coach of the Orlando Magic.

Nas And Hit-Boy Reveal The ‘King’s Disease III’ Tracklist But Keep Any Features A Secret

Nas and Hit-Boy’s fourth collaboration in three years, King’s Disease III, is out Friday, and the duo has shared the official tracklist. The list includes references to Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, which might be an apt comparison of the relationship between Nas and Hit-Boy, but doesn’t appear to have any collaborations. While they could be saving those for a later date, it’s also easy to imagine that they are planning for their trilogy-capping release to forego any extraneous voices, giving Nas the opportunity to show out.

If they do have features, it’ll be interesting to see who comes to the table after the first two King’s Disease albums (and Magic) brought in a plethora of surprise collaborators from A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Blxst to Don Toliver and Lil Durk. Nas also reunited with The Firm (the original lineup with Cormega instead of Nature) and Eminem, as well as bringing EPMD back together and getting Ms. Lauryn Hill to record her first new track in years.

Lil Durk Explained Why He Won’t Drop Names In His Music Anymore

The past two years have been huge for Chicago rapper Lil Durk. His 7220 album, which dropped back in March, generated several gold and platinum singles, including, “Pissed Me Off,” “Ahhh Ha,” and “Broadway Girls.” This time has also been rife with tragedy, as he lost his older brother, Dontay Banks Jr., back in June of 2021, to gun violence.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Durk revealed that he is aiming to put an end to gun violence in Chicago.

He said that he is still grappling with the death of his brother, as well as rapper King Von, who died the year prior to gun violence as well. Because of this, he has decided to change his approach to making music, as not to instigate conflict or any sort of violence.

“That’s why I’m not saying names no more [in my music],” he added. “I ain’t speaking on the dead no more — none of that.”

As the rapper’s star continues to rise, he wants to create a better life for himself and his six children, and to ensure the health and wellness of his family.

“I’m not chasing death no more,” Durk said. “I’m chasing a billion dollars. I want our kids to grow up safe and sound, to be able to have fun, to have a real life.”

Shakira Reached A Child Custody Agreement With Gerard Piqué Amidst Their Separation

Amidst their separation, Shakira and Gerard Piqué have reached a child custody agreement. Last night (November 8), the two superstars revealed that they worked on an agreement that’s in the best interest of their kids.

Back in June, Shakira and Piqué announced their separation. The soccer star reportedly cheated on Shakira, which led to their decision to part ways after over 11 years together.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we request respect for (our) privacy. Thank you for your understanding,” Shakira and Piqué said in a joint statement.

In another joint statement, Shakira and Piqué announced that they reached a child custody agreement for their two sons, Sasha and Milan. They kept details of their agreement private.

“We have signed a custody agreement,” they said in a statement. “Our sole objective is to provide our children with the utmost security and protection and hope that they can continue with their lives in a safe and calm environment.”

According to People, after growing up in Piqué’s home turf of Barcelona, the boys will move with Shakira to Miami early next year. The decision was described as what’s “best for the kids.”

On the music front, Shakira’s recent singles, “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro and “Monotonía” with Ozuna, seemingly touch on her separation from Piqué. In the former, she sarcastically congratulates a cheating lover for acting like a faithful partner, and in the latter, she sings about a relationship that has run its course.

“I can only say that either consciously or subconsciously, everything I feel, everything I go through is reflected in the lyrics I write, in the videos I make. When the glove fits, it fits. Like I said before, my music is that channel,” Shakira told Elle in September.
