Doja Cat Jokes That She’s Been Canceled ‘Maybe 350 Times’

Doja Cat recently flexed her multifaceted talent on her album Planet Her. But just over a year ago, people on the internet were calling for her to quit music entirely. Fans on Twitter were rushing to cancel the singer after old, insensitive videos of her surfaced in chatrooms with reported members of the alt-right/incel community. The singer apologized, but wasn’t fazed by the controversy as she’s apparently used to getting canceled.

Doja Cat recently sat down for an interview with Big Boy, where she discussed her album, a recent mishap at the dentist, and her celebrity crush (Reggie Watts.) But when Big Boy asked how many times she thinks she’s been canceled on the internet, the singer joked that it’s happened “maybe 350 times:”

“Starting from age 6 to age 25, maybe 350 times. My mom cancels me, my brother cancels me, my schoolmates canceled me — everybody cancels me. I cancel me, my boyfriends have canceled me. Not in a way where it’s like a huge political down power of something crazy that I did. It’s just, canceling is a fight on the internet, and that’s how I see it. It’s a fight for something and I’ve been in pressure where I feel like I’ve had to fight. And I’ve done that my whole life, so anything that happens, I come right out the other side just okay.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Doja sang The Weeknd’s praise over their “You Right” collaboration, saying he was the “sweetest” artist she’s ever worked with. “He’s a good friend of mine. He’s like part of my family, I feel like,” she said about the singer. “We met maybe two or three years ago. But he’s the sweetest artist I ever collaborated with—no shade to anybody else. But he is top notch, the sweetest person, and brilliant, very talented.”

Fans Ship Saweetie And Jack Harlow After He Introduced Himself To Her On The BET Awards Red Carpet

Saweetie‘s only been split up from Quavo for about three months, but fans already see a new rap beau in her future. Jack Harlow, who featured on Saweetie’s “Tap In” remix last year, was caught on camera playfully interrupting her interview on the BET Awards red carpet to introduce himself — and because the interview in question was for The Shade Room, you know it caught the attention of exactly the fans who love shipping celebrities almost as much as sipping the spilled tea from their relationship drama.

During the interview, in which Saweetie was asked to “step into The Shade Room,” Harlow can be seen walking past in the background before pulling a smooth 180 and popping into the shot to say, “Hi, Saweetie.” While shaking hands, Saweetie notices that Jack seems to be the one shaking… which he denies before slinking off to the award show. When asked by the host whether that was Jack shooting his shot, Saweetie betrayed a woeful misunderstanding of the outlet interviewing her, warning her, “I don’t know, but y’all better not be messy with this sh*t.” Uhhh…. Saweetie? IT’S THE SHADE ROOM. You already know what’s going to happen!

Sure enough, once the video migrated to Twitter, the reactions came rolling in, sending both artists’ names straight to the trending topics (where they’ve been quite comfortable for months, especially after Sunday’s BET Awards, where Harlow’s presence was questioned and fans thirsted over Saweetie’s dad). While some fans seemed quite keen on the idea of a love connection between the two hitmakers, others thought Saweetie could do better (not Jack though… sorry, Jack). Check out the best responses below.

It Looks Like A New And Enhanced Version Of The Award-Winning ‘Ghost Of Tsushima’ Is On Its Way

Ghost of Tsushima, the BAFTA award-winning action-adventure game by Sucker Punch Productions, appears to be getting a new and enhanced release. Earlier today, the Entertainment Software Rating Board revealed the rating for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, all but confirming the previously unannounced game. According to the listing, the game will be available on both PlayStation and PlayStation 5, though as of right now there is no scheduled release date.

Much like the original version of Ghost of Tsushima, the Director’s Cut is rated M for Mature for “Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Language,” and “Partial Nudity.” In addition, the description of the game is exactly the same as the original, detailing all the grisly gameplay in the base game. However, the Director’s Cut label in addition to this reveal following rumors of the game getting an expansion, indicated there might be a lot more to this new edition. Whereas Ghost of Tsushima did get a multiplayer expansion, a new game plus mode, and a next-gen upgrade since its launch last July, all of this content was released for free and didn’t necessarily expand the game’s narrative.

For those unfamiliar with Ghost of Tsushima, the critically-acclaimed title follows samurai Jin Sakai as he undertakes a quest for vengeance against Mongol invaders in 13th century Japan. The PlayStation exclusive is one of the many video games inspired films Sony is currently working on, and is set to be directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahlelski.

As of now, neither Sony nor Sucker Punch have confirmed Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.

Kindergarteners were asked where they’d want to time travel and the answers are incredible

If you ever want to gain a whole new perspective on life, talk to a classroom full of 5-year-olds. Young kids approach the world with refreshing innocence and delightful wonder, and their perspective can teach us all some valuable lessons.

George Pointon often shares conversations he has with his year one students (the equivalent of kindergarten in the U.S.) on Twitter, with questions such as “What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you?” or “What do adults do for fun? and they are always entertaining. The latest question he asked his students—”If you could time travel, where would you go?”—resulted in some hilariously meaningful answers. And Pointon’s analysis of their answers makes them even funnier.

Alice answered, “to after school.”

“Straight off to a belter here,” Pointon wrote. “She could go anywhere. I mean literally wherever, whenever (said Shakira). But Alice has decided to use this omnipotence to move, 47 minutes into the future. I took it personally to be honest. My lessons aren’t that bad.”

Poor Mr. Pointon.

Katie had a similar answer, “So I can go to the park.”

“There is a park literally outside the school, so, again, Katie also wants to use her power to travel 40 minutes ahead of time. I’m annoyed but I do appreciate and love the innocence of it. Why live more than today? Today is the best we have.”

There’s that out-of-the-mouths-of-babes wisdom we love to see. Live in the now. Don’t yearn for a different time or another season. Be present in the present and make the most of it.

Of course, we all see things differently and Jack had a whole other approach to the question. “Back in time REALLY far.”

By “REALLY far,” Jack meant 1999. So he could do nothing but go swimming. Pointon is right—time travel is wasted on the young.

Unless we’re talking about Toby’s answer, which was “Meet my mum as a baby.” Yes. Brilliant. Perfectly sweet film storyline that’s probably already been done but who cares.

Or “selfless and kind” Emma, “Floremma Nightingale,” who said she would “take medicine back to old times.” Oh, my heart.

Pointon’s threads like this often feature particularly funny responses from Mikey, who for this questions simply answered “Breakfast.”

“Normally I use this platform to dismantle Mikey’s answers,” Pointon wrote. “Not today. He is staying at his Nana’s and she made Chocolate Chip Pancakes this morning with a banana milkshake. I can only agree with him. Forgot seeing Plato or The Beatles. Nans pancakes please.”

And just when you thought it was all sweet, light-hearted fun, Ravi chimed in with “See my Grandpa again.” Cue the tears and grab the tissues, because he said they played marbles together. MARBLES. Oof.

Rosie brought us back, though, with “Go to the cinema to see Hotel Transylvania 2.” Right on, Rosie. No home TV experience compares to going to the movies.

Wendy wouldn’t because she doesn’t want to. You do you, Wendy. Don’t let anyone dim that independent spirit.

And Ben, who wants to “Go to New York with the dinosaurs”? Thank you for the reminder that 5-year-olds and dinosaurs are a timeless pair, even if New York didn’t exist until millions of years after they were all dead.

And then, finally, there’s Susanna, the disgruntled-but-honest older sister whose brother had to come along and ruin her young life by existing. Hope you work through that by second grade, Susanna.

Seriously, little kids are the best. I don’t know how kindergarten teachers make it through the day without writing down every other hilarious or surprisingly deep thing their students say.

Thank you, Mr. Pointon, for sharing these gems with the world. (You can follow him on Twitter @GeorgePointon_ for more kid-inspired wisdom and fun.)

Rose Lavelle Discusses The USWNT And Giving Back To The Next Generation Of Girls In Soccer

Already one of the most promising talents in the United States women’s national team’s perpetually deep talent pool, Rose Lavelle established herself as one of the best players in the world in 2019. The Cincinnati native started six games at the World Cup in France, scored a goal against The Netherlands in the final that put an exclamation point on the team’s Cup-winning run, and took home the Bronze Ball, given to the tournament’s third-best player.

Over the last year, Lavelle’s career took an unexpected twist as she became one of the handful of Americans who left NWSL to go to England, opting to join Manchester City alongside national team teammate Sam Mewis. She’s back in the U.S. now with Tacoma-based side OL Reign, although almost immediately after taking the pitch for her club, obligations for her country came calling — Lavelle suited up for the USWNT in a trio of tune-up games before the roster for the upcoming Summer Olympics was set.

Lavelle ended up making the team, and now, all eyes are on whether the team will be able to win the tournament after the Americans went out in the quarterfinals to Sweden in 2016. But first, Lavelle, through her recent partnership with IcyHot, made a pair of surprise drop-ins with groups that look to empower young girls in the world of soccer — the non-profit Girls Leading Girls and the youth teams that work with ex-Boston College coach and How to Coach Girls author Alison Foley — earlier this month.

“It’s cool now that I’m in the position to be able to give back to girls, give back to the sport in the same way it has given to me,” Lavelle told Uproxx Sports over Zoom.

Following her pair of cameos, we sat down with Lavelle to talk the last year, the USWNT, giving back, IcyHot, and more.

You’re coming off of a busy year with moving over to England before coming back to the U.S. How did making that big of a change help you as a player?

I went to England because I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and be in an environment that was going to make me very uncomfortable, and they definitely did that. I think it’s been probably the best thing I could have done for my career. I was surrounded by world-class players who pushed me every day, and I experienced playing in different positions, which really helped me. It was challenging at the time and I think it took me a little bit of an adjustment period, but I think it definitely helped me become a more well-rounded player and tune up some things that I needed to work on.

So it was great, and I was excited to come back to the NWSL and be able to build on that confidence, and I only was at Reign for a week before I headed into camp, but it was a good first week. Obviously we didn’t get the results, but I think it’s gonna be an exciting team and exciting season and we have some really good players that I’m excited to get to play with.

And then personally, you mentioned going out of your comfort zone. I have to imagine going to a new team in a new league in a new country during a global pandemic had to be had to have been something else, no?

Yeah, it was. Luckily I had my U.S. teammate Sam Mewis there with me, so that definitely made the transition a little bit easier. We could lean on each other and have each other for support, but yeah, it was a wild time, but I’m so grateful for it. I was so grateful for the opportunity and that Man City allowed me to go and play there for a year during such a time of uncertainty. It was such an incredible experience, and yeah, I have like nothing but good things to say about that club.

We hear all the time, “this league is faster than this one, this one is more physical, more technical,” all these sorts of things. What are, in your eyes, the main similarities and differences between the NWSL and FAWSL?

Both of them are challenging and great in different ways. I think the NWSL is more transitional and aggressive, and there’s a lot of risk in the final third. There’s going to be a lot of opportunities and chances. I think the WSL is a little more methodical and technical, you have to break down teams in a different way.

Obviously there’s a huge summer coming up for the national team. The Olympics are right around the corner, y’all have won four in a row, you’re unbeaten in your last 43. What’s just the general vibe around the team right now?

We have to take it one game at a time, we can’t look too far ahead. We obviously have a goal in mind, but I think, yeah, it’s more just taking it one training, one game, one camp at a time, so that we can be fully focused and present in the moment, and I think this past Summer Series was a great preparation for what we could potentially face in Tokyo. It was similar in that we were in Houston, it was hard, like similar climate to what it’ll be in Tokyo, and then the quick turnaround between games, too, was similar, so I think it was a really good preview into into that tournament.

And yeah, I think the vibe is good. Obviously, we’re not going to take anything for granted. I don’t think you can sleep on any team, especially now in soccer. I think every team is that much better and it’s getting more and more competitive and more and more difficult to stay at the top.

It’s been two years since the World Cup — Vlatko [Andonovski] is manager now, the national team is always evolving in that there’s always this pipeline of players coming into the 18. Are there any major ways you’d say that the team has evolved since it’s won the World Cup, or do you think it’s just been steadily going on the same path?

Getty Image

That’s a good question. I felt like, before [the pandemic], we were building momentum and feeling really good, obviously there was a bit of a halt that everybody experienced. Yeah, I don’t know, I think that we were trying to just continue to build on it, and I think Vlatko and Milan [Ivanovic] have been incredible and have come in and taught us a lot and we’ve learned a lot from them, it’s been good.

I think we’re looking to build on the World Cup. In the same sense, though, we know that the World Cup was in the past, and what we did in the past was great, but now, it’s kind of about what our next goal is. So I don’t think we have that in mind, nothing gets given and we know that we really have to work and earn the top spot.

You made your national team debut a few years back, you’ve picked up 55 caps in that time. With a team as talented as the U.S., what is more difficult, breaking into the team or keeping a spot in it?

I think keeping a spot. Something interesting was my first camp with a national team was Abby Wambach’s last camp, and something that always stuck out to me … like I will always remember it because having been with this team for the past four years, it’s just so true. She said for the younger players, it’s not that this environment gets any easier, but the people who are here the longest make it look easy. I think you can come in and have a good couple camps, but I think this environment is so intense, so competitive, so hard physically and mentally. And it takes a lot to be able to stay in, be consistently in this group, and I think the veteran players are like such a good example of it. They’ve taught all the players coming up what it takes to be on this team. But yeah, I would say nothing is given and it’s hard to be on the team for as long as some of these players have been on the team.

And then you mentioned players staying on the team. One thing I really love about the national team is how there’s an ecosystem where a young player comes in, learns the ropes, becomes the star of the best team in the world, and then inspire that next generation of 8, 10, 12 year olds who become the next generation and just goes and goes and goes. As someone who’s been in the system, why do you think that’s been the case for several decades?

Honestly, I think it’s because they’re such good role models to look up to. I feel like I’ve said this a million times, but I was so obsessed with the national team when I was a girl and I wanted to be in their shoes one day, and they were just such a good example to me of what I could potentially be and achieve, and it’s cool now that I’m in the position to be able to give back to girls, give back to the sport in the same way it has given to me.

I think it’s one of the reasons I’ve been excited about my partnership with IcyHot, I got to be on two calls this morning with some young female athletes and talk to them about my journey and what I have done to get here, and I think being able to share that and kind of help motivate the younger generation to stay in the sport and, and keep pushing and overcome hurdles has been exciting. I’m like already excited about the partnership because it’s allowed me to do that.

Yeah, and when you have something like what you had earlier with IcyHot, what’s the biggest piece of advice you give to that generation of 8, 10, 12 year old girls about what they need to do to become the next Rose Lavelle?

I think when you’re that age, it’s all about having fun and enjoying it. I think when I was that age and even going up into high school, I just loved it so much and wanted to be playing it all the time. And I think that goes for the parents, too, like allowing your kids to enjoy it for what it is and not putting the pressure on them that they have to perform, or they have to be doing this or they have to be doing that. I just think at that age, enjoy it, have fun, and let this be something that like brings you joy, not something that brings you stress. I think the reason that I still love soccer as much as I do is because my parents were like that, they kind of let me pave my own path, let me do my own thing, and I’m so grateful for that.

And I’m gonna guess that while you’re telling them to have fun, you’re having just the time of your life doing these sorts of things.

Right, it’s so cool that this gets to be my job. I think, obviously, there’s a different element that gets added with being professional and everybody having access to watch my games — obviously, when I was growing up, that wasn’t the case, and so there’s a little bit more added pressure. But at the same time, I think pressure and competition are reasons why I’ve loved playing sports in general — I like to win so, I think it’s been fun.

And then, beyond that, what’s this I hear about you having something going on with IcyHot and Shaq?

I just joined the IcyHot fam and Shaquille O’Neal, their long-standing partner. I’m excited to join forces with them and have the opportunity to talk about IcyHot and their contrast therapy. I think it’s cool because it has been something that I have used for so long. Like, even in high school when I didn’t really know how to best take care of my body, I still had IcyHot that I was like using before practice or before games, have that icy sensation to dull any pain, it was instant pain relief, and then the hot sensation that relaxed it all. So it’s cool that now, I’m like working with a brand that’s been with me my whole playing career.

To go back to France for a second, you have a tournament under your belt. What did you learn about getting into a routine and having yourself physically ready to play from that time where it was, what, seven games in three and a half weeks or whatever it was?

Getting the experience in France I think definitely helps me be more prepared heading into this tournament. But I think that the Olympics is also a whole other beast, given the short timeframe, the quick turnaround, the smaller roster, the heat and humidity is obviously going to play a factor. I’m glad that I have the World Cup under my belt to give me a taste of what it’s like to be in those big pressure moments, and I think that knowledge is like going to be needed in this next big tournament.

This interview has been lightly edited for clarity.

Trump Might Be One Of The Only People Who Actually Believes Tucker Carlson’s NSA Surveillance Claims

Tucker Carlson loves nothing more than to fuel conspiracy theories in the minds of Fox News viewers, and he lit one up for himself this week while claiming that the NSA is spying on him (apparently at the behest of Joe Biden) because they want to take him off the air. Never mind that Tucker puts all his crazy out there on the air, so what would the point (of spying on him) be? Regardless, his claims arrive on the tail of (and may have something to do with) Ben Smith’s New York Times report about Tucker allegedly leaking Donald Trump dirt to liberal media sources. Well, Trump must not be too sore about that because he’s buying Tucker’s NSA claim.

One interesting thing to note here (and this has been, of course, noticed by CNN) is that Tucker’s Fox News colleagues have not stepped up to defend him (either on social media or on-air) on the monitoring claim. Nonetheless, Tucker believes what he’s selling while insisting (without providing any proof whatsoever) that a “whistleblower” within the agency told him that the spying (on his entire team) has been ongoing.

It’s unclear whether Fox News will officially a statement on the subject. One would think that they’d want to get to the bottom of any of their employees allegedly being hacked by the U.S. government, right? Well, at least Tucker has one believer on his side: Trump. Via Mediaite, Trump is on Tucker’s side: “I think it’s true. It’s totally believable.”

The former president made the statement while speaking on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show, but Trump’s sentiment was a fleeting one that was sandwiched in between his own (unequivocally false) claims of the 2020 election being stolen from him. It’s worth nothing that The Daily Beast’s Roger Sollenberger has tweeted a screenshot of text messages with Tucker, who apparently claimed (eight full months ago) that he was being hacked by the NSA. Again, no proof appears here, only Tucker’s claims.

Serena Williams Had To Retire From Her First Round Match At Wimbledon After Slipping On The Court

Serena Williams’ return to Wimbledon came to an end before it ever really got started on Tuesday. The seven-time champion slipped on the grass in her first round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the fourth game of the first set, injuring her left ankle and eventually forcing her to retire from the match just 34 minutes into the first set.

It is a gutting moment and you can see how painful it is to Williams to have to retire at a place she loves so much. Wimbledon has long been one of her favorite stages on which to play and you can see how much it means to her in her emotions as she walks to the net to officially retire from the match and then takes the time to wave graciously to the crowd as she leaves the court.

It’s a highly unfortunate injury, but Williams wasn’t the first casualty of the grass on the main court at Wimbldedon. Earlier in the day on Centre Court, Adrian Mannarino was also forced to retire after slipping on the surface in his match with Roger Federer in the fourth set while leading two sets to one.

There will be ample discussion of the court conditions, but the grass is always at its most lush early in the tournament at Wimbledon and slippery conditions can exist. For Williams it was a bitter end to what she hoped would be just the start of another deep run into the Wimbledon fortnight.

Ariana Grande Absolutely Crushed A Karaoke Version Of ‘Suddenly Seymour’ From ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’

Most people shy away from karaoke as the thought of singing in front of a group of people can be terrifying. But Ariana Grande is more than enough experience serenading strangers, so taking over the mic at during karaoke is a breeze. That’s exactly what she did during a recent kick-back with friends and her new husband Dalton Gomez. Grande busted out the duet “Suddenly Seymour” from the musical Little Shop Of Horrors, and she absolutely crushed it.

Surrounded by friends and family, Grande took on the role of Audrey as her close friend delivered Seymour’s lines on the iconic lovelorn track, per TMZ. Grande decided to take the opportunity to show off her impressive vocal range, hitting all the high notes in perfect key and essentially giving her loved ones a private concert.

Ahead of Grande’s soaring rendition of “Suddenly Seymour,” a report from The Hollywood Reporter last year teased that a big screen remake of the film might cast none other than Chris Evans to play Audrey’s evil love interest Orin Scrivello. Evans wasn’t the only name mentioned, however. The report also stated that Taron Egerton, known for his role as Elton John in Rocketman, is on the list for Seymour while Scarlett Johansson is in talks to portray Audrey.

Jonquel Jones Will Return For Sun-Mystics On Tuesday After Dominating EuroBasket

Jonquel Jones will return to the WNBA on Tuesday night against Tina Charles and the Washington Mystics in a battle of MVP-favorites after clearing protocol following a historic run at the 2021 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket tournament. Jones led Bosnia and Herzegovina to a 4-2 record and its first-ever spot in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

Jones’ play was beyond astounding in her six games, averaging 24.3 points on 49.5 percent shooting from the field and 32.5 percent shooting from 3-point range with 16.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 36.3 minutes. In her final two games, she scored 63 points on 49 field goal attempts with 43 rebounds.

She dominated the competition abroad, much like she was running the WNBA before her overseas absence. In 10 games for the Sun, she’s averaging 21.6 points per night on 56.8 percent shooting from the field and 48.9 percent shooting from distance with 10.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.2 blocks.

In Jones’ absence from the league, Mystics forward Tina Charles has taken the center of attention in the league’s best player conversation. If the season ended today, Charles’s 25.33 points per game would edge out Diana Taurasi’s all-time record by four hundredths of a point. Charles is also shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from 3-point range with 9.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.9 steals. That those two will get the chance to go head-to-head on Tuesday night brings some additional intrigue to Jones’ return to the WNBA floor, as she’ll have quite the opportunity to reassert her place in the MVP conversation.

In five games without Jones, the Sun have gone 2-3, and lost their place in the top-2 of the WNBA’s standings. At 10-5, they trail the Las Vegas Aces by one game and the Seattle Storm by two games. Jones’s return is expected to help Connecticut challenge the WNBA’s powerhouses and assert themselves again as a title contender.

Kevin Feige Confirmed A Fan Suspicion About The ‘Shang-Chi’ Trailer’s Abomination Fight Scene

When the latest trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings dropped last week, Marvel fans were freaking out over the final moments where a character who looked a heck of a lot like Abomination was battling it out in a cage match. Besides the addition of gills to match his comic book look, it was quite clearly Tim Roth’s version of the villain from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, but given the prevalence of bizarre characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there was always a chance that the creature could be someone else. Not anymore.

In a surprising bit of transparency, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed that, yes, the character in the trailer is Abomination. On top of that, fans were speculating that his opponent in the ring is yet another key MCU character, and Feige went ahead and confirmed that one, too. Via Rotten Tomatoes:

“Yes, we just recently released the final trailer for Shang-Chi,” said Feige. “Some fans said, ‘This looks like a character they hadn’t seen in many years named The Abomination, fighting a character that looks like Wong. And I can say that the reason it looks like that is because that is Abomination fighting Wong.”

Considering Shang-Chi officially kicks off the events of Marvel Phase 4, we’re already seeing several MCU properties flow through the film just in the trailer. The cage fight takes place in Madripoor, which was a pivotal location in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Abomination is there ahead of his upcoming appearance in the She-Hulk series, and now, we have confirmation that Wong is indulging in some recreational cage-fighting before the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. All that’s missing is White Vision floating around in the background, and we probably wouldn’t rule that out at this point.

(Via Rotten Tomatoes)
